it would be nice if the volume didn't keep reverting to a minimum level when the app starts up.
When looking at the "Camera details" screen, it could be useful to have a "View on map" option in addition to the edit features. _________________ Andy

I am not aware of the volume issue you mention. What's your device and OS?
as for the "show on map" - You can already see the location of the camera when you go via the Edit route. Sometimes you may actually get to the selection from the map (using the popup when you tap on a camera), and other times the user may select to never show the map (to prevent data traffic) and in that case we couldn't show that link anyhow. _________________ Lutz

I'm just using the iPhone as a stand alone unit, with the phone's speaker as the output _________________ Andy

GPS_Fan. Same set up here but not seeing that issue...
iPhone 4, iOS 4.1, CamerAlert 1.1 (34 - 100608)
Have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it?

My issue with volume was that I concluded that when things are switched off, they revert to a basic volume setting so as not to blow your head off when you switch on again - my van radio does that, and so does CamerAlert. As a "safety" feature, I really couldn't quarrel with that, even though I'd prefer them both to keep my last volume setting _________________ Dennis

I disagree dennis. i've found that all app volumes are retained during subsequent restarts etc. if i put the volume down to 1 in a game then close the game my main system volume is the same as before. putting the volume to 1 doesn't effect other apps. if i restart that game then the volume of 1 is retained.if i close and go back to another app then it is unchanged...
there certainly isn't anything in cameralert to 'reset the volume' at each start.

Does this mean that the CameraAlert volume is indpendent of the main system volume control? I've found that the music and cameralert volumes seem to go up and down together, and that the cameralert alerts always seem to be much louder than the music player. I'd like to find a way of balancing the volume of music and alerts if that is possible? |

OK, then it's down to my bluetooth setup. Which I may have solved today by the simple expedient of buying yet another Bluetooth solution, namely the Mio/Magellan Car Kit (yes, another £99.99 on top of the same for the TT Car Kit!). The volume is audible, so I can listen to the warnings (and phone calls) on it instead of struggling to sort out something else - it seemed to be the switching from one BT device to another which gave problems (sorry, challenges, issues etc) - it wouldn't stay locked onto one, kept reverting to the car kit which was inaudible AND seemed to reset CamerAlert volume slider to very low. _________________ Dennis

I'm not convinced because I have bluetooth switched off.
Occasionally, the volume will stay up to where it was previously set but, more often than not, it defaults to a very low setting each time the app is started.
This issue, however, is little more than a minor irritation with what is otherwise a very good app which packs a heck of a punch compared with the functionality of many other apps _________________ Andy

What about a funky speed or even better, background noise detecting volume control. Before you alert, have a quick listen to see how noisy your environment is. Then add the "fiddle factor" (up or down) depending on where the user has set the volume for the alerts.
Ahhh, should be simple to code up. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I agree that the Cameralert Volume is linked to the iPod volume, so if I turn the music down at home so it doens't wake the family and when I go to work and start the app in the car then Cameralert volume is the same level.
It would be a useful addition if in the settings you can set a default volume so you don't have to remember to turn it back up every time. If you're feeling flash then you could also revert back to what it was when the app started but that would be a nice to have. |
