Two reasons why the UK & ROI map is quicker to download, primarily it is not as much in demand as W&CE as the UK map is mainly downloaded by UK users whilst W&CE is downloaded across Europe.

Secondly UK & ROI is only 213MB & W&CE is 2310MB.

UK & ROI took me around 12 mins at 8:20 last night.

You mean they should turn it off then on again?

Yes I do and fit a turbo charger to it! Laughing

No better this morning either. TomTom just seem to have lost interest recently. Crying or Very sad

There is the possibility that some ISP accounts could throttle a 2GB download.

I suspect it's a ISP issue. Some people here are reporting many hours wait on internet connections five to ten times faster than my 2.3 Mbs BT connection. It took me just over an hour for the same map.

Maybe we should have a name and shame for the download speeds - my 16hr yesterday (and today 3hr and growing Rolling Eyes) is with Tiscali (8Mbps).

Be interesting to know who Daggers ISP is and what package they have.

It's Virgin (cable) - 10Mbps.

Excellent - I was thinking of swapping to Virgin to avoid the BT line rental rise and to ditch Sky anyway - thanks for the info!

But I'm on Virgin "20Mbps" and three attempts to download W+CE have failed so far, after estimating download times of 8-16 hours.

Remember also, that the UK map is a tenth of the size of the full Europe one.

When i was with VM and had the 10 Mbps package it was ok if it downloaded first time. Subsequent attempts broke the 2 Gb / day limit and the connection was trottled for a period - usually a few hours or so.

However at least you know what speed you will get. Currently trying to get my 7.5 Mbps speed back after it dropped to 2.3 Mbps when BT repaired my noisy and crackly line...

But 4 minutes is not a tenth of 8-16 hours. (My 6 minute estimate included 2 mins to install!).

Thanks for that info Paul (and apologies for taking this post o/t), just been looking at the Virgin traffic management policy which doesn't seem too bad as the map updates are about the biggest thing I ever download (apart from when works Lotus Notes crashes but that's an entirely different subject altogether!)
