Hello All,

I've just pensioned off my trusty i3 and bought a Nuvi 1340T. Very pleased at the moment.

I eventually found the map version (took some doing and not with the other version IDs!) and I've got version 2010.10 - Western Europe.

Now, when I bought my i3 back in '95 (??) there was a free offer upgrade if you bought your satnav and the maps were almost immediately out of date.
Can anyone tell me if this is still the case with Garmin satnavs, and if I am eligible.

No, I've not plugged it into the automatic updators. I generally tend to steer clear of those, and update manually as and when I deem it necessary - Can you still do manual updates? or is it now driven by the automatic updating Garmin Robot??

Many thanks,
Brian.

If a new map comes out within 60 day of purchasing, then you are entiltled to a free map update. 2010.10 is the latest map at the moment.

No City Navigator Europe NT 2011.10 is the latest (2011 not 2010 as stated, which is three quarterly released behind current - ie. January 2010 release)

A new (presumably NT 2011.20 ?) is due any time now, so if you are well within your first 60 days probably best to hang on - it's normally listed here when released, otherwise if your 60 day limit (from first sat fix) is nearly up, grab the 2011.10 now

Makes it far too easy to work out how old your maps are. By giving it a year 'newer' look it will fool loads pf people Shocked

Thanks everyone,

I've only had it a week, so plenty of time to see if new maps are released.

I'll watch this space!

Bri.

In answer to the first question - you have to register the device, which involves having it connected at the time so the Robot can tell when you first acquired a satellite - but thereafter if you qualify for the free upgrade you can choose to download (which had options to install on PC only, on both PC and device, or on device only) or pay the delivery charge (£5 + VAT = £5.87) for a DVD which they will send "in four to six weeks". Unless you're in a rush, the DVD is the safer option as Garmin often muck up the JV [junction view] file download for the high-end units, and reports suggest that has happened again with the 2011.20 map update.

Also of course you get MapSource for your PC(s) with the DVD version if you don't have it already, and the whole of Europe (W & E) comes with the upgrade either on DVD or if you install to PC. If there's no room on the unit for the bigger maps, and the whole thing comes to nearly 1.9 GB - too big to go on a 2GB card, anyway - you can download the excess, for when you drive to Bulgaria and Turkey, as a gmapsupp.img to a card to use in the unit.
