I've got a couple of hundred exported favourites from my Garmin that I'd like to get into my TomTom iPhone application.

Is there any way to do this apart from manually adding them one by one?

Is your iPhone JailBroken as this makes it possible to add a custom POI file to the app which can be created from the Garmin csv based data using POIEdit on your PC, if your iPhone isn't JailBroken then AFAIK there isn't a way to add files enblock to the app on the device - Mike

No it's not and I don't really want to jailbreak it.

I've built up these favourites over years and often need to refer back to old ones when revisiting places so I guess I'm going to have to spend some time typing them all back in.

I notice the TomTom app doesn't appear to sort them automatically, is there a way to do that?

One app you might be interested in which offers to sort custom POI files on the TomTom app is "CustomPOI" by Roddy Simpson, problem is with no reviews and I haven't tried it as yet I don't know what it can/ cannot do! worth having a look at it though - Mike

So here I am typing them all in and I've come to a limit. I didn't see this in any documentation anywhere but it looks as though it can only handle 50 favourites. That's really not very many Sad

The only way I see to do that is to use the CustomPOI Utility which seems a bit odd in it's function. If I put the lat/long of somewhere into it and then tell it to send it to TomTom all it does is open the map with a magifying glass.

Nothing is actually stored within TomTom, is that right?

thatr's correct. you could actually do this yourself if you have any web access or add them as contacts in your address book?

all it uses is a custom url scheme so simply make a link to:
tomtomhome:geo:action=show&lat=LAT&long=LON&name=NAME

eg

tomtomhome:geo:action=show&lat=52.12345&long=-1.2345&name=Example

tapping on 'home page' in a contact will then open up the location in tomtom (though it will ignore the name...) then you can press the little blue arrow and 'navigate there'

you could also create a simple webpage with links to the custom url (i.e. tomtomhome:// instead of http://)

you could also do the same for navigon: navigon://-|-|GBR|-|-|-|-|LON|LAT (though you can't use this method in the contacts for a home page owing to the lack of the 'bar' button...)

all the app does is store your poi's and generate the custom url link when you want to use it.

Thanks MaFt, that works perfectly although it's a bit clunky. I've created a new group in my Address Book called Sat Nav Favourites and they've synced over nicely using MobileMe.

I'm still amazed that it can only store 50 favourites.
