My brother recently purchased a TomTom start and paid extra for updates on speed cameras; it does everything it says on the tin but for one. There is no warning sound when approaching a camera. The instructions say it should and while I'm at it is it possible to alter the distance at which this mythical sound is made. Seems to me there's not much point in paying extra if it doesn't actually work. |

Options, then hit the Advanced button (not much advanced about this device but thats what the button is named) then go through the option when you tap "Enable Safety Alerts" - Mike |

Thanks Mike it's working of a fashion now but I do agree with your bracketed comment. He tells me that of 6 cameras he passed today he was only warned of 2 and the others didn't even exist according to the satnav. Yet they'd been there for over a year!! and this is a brand new device and updated on line:twisted: |

Welcome to the world of TT Safety Cameras - next to useless.
But, with the START you can't use custom POIs so unfortunately you are stuck with the TT ones.
I would ask for a refund on the device and get a proper satnav that does allow 3rd party POIs. |

....Including the far-superior speed camera database from this site, if you weren't aware of it. (no -one had mentioned it yet!) |

I know.... easy for us regulars to assume that!
But reading through the posts, it COULD be that "Oramazda" wasn't aware of the PGPSW database at all. |

As a POI I do have a speed camera updates in fact my sub doesn't expire for another 20 years by which time presumably I'll have departed this mortal coil.
Unfortunately my brother had purchased the 'start' (what a inappropriate name) before consulting me and is now in negotiation with TT to return it and get his money back as it's effectively a useless piece of kit since it doesn't even do what it says on the tin!
Thanks for all the input and I'll certainly be watching with interest to see what others recommend. |
