hi everyone,
being a thicky I would like to know how I can put my own poi's onto igo8, I would like to put the caravan club sites etc and some others on to it, any help would be grateful. I read somewhere that you have to put your poi's into the userdata/poi, but I can't find it on my igo8 sd card

The folder should be on your card in iGO8\content\userdata\POI. However, how to add them? I don't know, sorry Sad

As M8TJT says but they have to be in KML format. When you start iGO it will create two new files, .kix and .kns, for each KML file you add. When you next navigate to 'POI' the new ones will be in the list.

Add a 'new folder' and name it userdata inside this add a 'new folder' poi

If you can download your POI's as a KML file it's a case of just copy to the userdat/poi folder. If you download as another type you will need a xxx to KML converter.

If you do a Search for POI Converter on this site or Google you will find there are several free ones which do the job.

If it comes as a .zip or .rar you will have to unzip first but if it shows as KML that's the one you need to use.

The POI folder is where you put e.g. PGPSW speed cameras as a .txt file. These will show up as a camera on screen and alert you of the camera. You cannot navigate to anything you put in this folder.

Have you added a new folder in Contents and named it userdata?
Inside this folder you need to add another new one and name it poi?

You need to do that first as it's different from, and extra to, the normal Contents/POI folder.

Next, as a trial, go HERE choose Download by Countrys - Europe -GB - Camping sites. Click on Download iGO8 or iGO Amigo KML, save to your hard drive, usually in My Documents, but somewhere you will remember where you saved it. Unzip, open the new folder and copy the GB-CampingSites KML file into your Contents/userdata/poi folder. NOT the Contents/POI one.

Start iGO and Navigate to POI, Around here. Look down the list and you will find the GB-CampingSites POI's in the list. Sometimes in alphabetical order and sometimes at the end, it can vary according to where you downloaded from.

If you wish to delete this trial, go to Contents/userdata folder and delete the GB-CampingSites file together with the associated .kix and .kns files.

Just noticed the link didn't work so try HERE

Whilst on the poi questions, can anyone tell me how to put the icons applicable to the poi onto igo8, ie caravan clug has 2 icons one for club sites and one for certified sites. Is there a way to get thse on so they show up on map screen?? instead of the standard google earth one

You have to open the file "data.zip" and in it delete this file:
"ui_igo8/icons/poi/kmlpoi.icon"
Otherwise this will be the standard icon for all imported kml pois.
Do you have the icons already in igo8?
If yes, then go to Manage, POI and look for your caravan pois.
Press Edit. You see the bottom bar with four fields. Press the third one
and look for your caravan icons.
If you don't have them already in igo8, let me know.

I was going to become a paid member, but when I found out that the POIs can't be output in kml format, I concluded that I'm not going to pay if the site admins are happy for paying subscribers to waste their time converting from csv to kml format, when it would merely take them an hour to code the kml formatted output and save their subscribers a whole load of man hours.

If you are talking about PGPSW POIs then that might have been true. However the fact is you don't have to pay for the POIs here...

Otherwise what sites admin are you talking about?

Download .csv file (2 seconds), start POI convertor (2 seconds) load ,csv files (2 seconds), convert (2 seconds), copy .kml file to appropriate folder (5 seconds).

Hardly hours. I don't mind at all because it saves me hours trying to look up on the Interent places I may want to visit on route or around destination. Plus they are FREE to use, although would have taken many hours to gather into one place for our use.

Fair enough, Lost_Property, I take it back. In that case, can you give me a link for a mac POI converter?

I still think that a server side script that does the job would be appreciated by the users of the site.
