Today was a sad, sad day for me. My Leadtek 9531 that I nurtured from birth, adopted, gave it a roof over it's head, and coaxed it through it's happy life, letting it travel the world when it wanted to, finally passed away in my hands today. Yes, this is the same Leadtek I've had since the start of Pocket GPS (almost), I purchased it directly after writing the original TomTom Navigator 1 Review in September 2002, it's been my friend and companion, and gone everywhere with me, but alas no more. It has been ill for just over a month now with intermittent connections, and today it's time of death was recorded as 06:42am.

If anyone has a Leadtek spare and no longer use or one they'd like to donate to the "Save the Leadtek Fund", please drop me an email. It may be a large beast, but it's certainly a reliable one. [sob]

As the band "The Verve" said,

The drugs don't work anymore!

Dave,

I have just checked my Leadtek (purchased with TTN1) and :D it still works. When out on trips I carry it in the car as a spare in case my Emtac BTGPS packs up.

I had forgotten how strong the magnet is in the base. It would wipe a PDA in no time I presume. If I ever retire my Leadtek then I will pass it on to you Thumbs Up At the moment I am still waiting for units using SiRF 3 chips to be released.

Richard

Thanks Richard, the Leadtek's are a bit of a brick in terms of size and weight, but they really do work well. Been having a lot more problems with BT lately, so I've been using the Leadtek even more so lately. I've had to put a Haicom 204 on the dash for the moment.

It's a strange day when we thing a piece of solid state electronics that lasts less than 2 years is "reliable". I think we all have very lowered expectations!
