My dads 1390T appears to have some how forgotten all the info on it regarding the maps,

he was out driving all was ok, turned the unit off, did some shopping, turning it back on and it had lost the map detail, he could see major A roads and motorways but thats it, just green everywhere else..... I have had a look and on map info the maps that were loaded were greyed out, and you could only tick "none"

I did a master reset on the unit and since then i still get the same map detail - or lack of - but when looking on the map info it saus nothing at all!!!

so does anyone know if theres anyway to re-activate the maps? they are still on there as theres 2gig+ of info on there.

I have also tried unlocking the maps by making a unlock file as per garmins instructions, and unlocking them via the mapsource.

I have noticed when turning the unit on it says "map loading" but when it should say "copyright garmin maps etc etc" before it said "-z" then just "z" and now it just has the "copyright "C" in a cicle"

anyone have any ideas?!?!?!

Cheers

Karl.

You might need to recreate the GMAPPROM.UNL (and/or GMAPPROM1.UNL) file(s).

They should contain the 25 digit unlock code. You should be able to get this from the MAP info page at my.garmin.com.

This is (probably) what the Mapsource unlock procedure attempts to do - but I'm not convinced it does it properly, especially when there are two map files (I *think* the 1390 has US as well as European mapping). It may have got the codes and the unlock files mixed up.

UPDATE

I just checked the Garmin website, and mysteriously, the 1390 seems to be Europe only (unlike the 1370 that I'm familar with).

So.... it should just be a matter of recreating \.System\gmapprom.unl with the 25 digit unlock code from the 'Installed Maps' part of the "My Maps" section of my.garmin.com

(He says, optimistically Very Happy )
