Looks good. The traffic display looks an improvement on my 540. Just need custom POIs and the 540 is going up on ebay.

There are other, more ephemeral improvements to the app, according to TomTom, including more sympathetic music fade.

I hope this means we'll be seeing music volume faded and the navigation instructions played over the top, the current stop/start of music drives me mad when driving around a town!

It's out!!! HD Traffic listed as the only change so far.

Downloading now so haven't looked at it yet.

edit: Got it now. HD Traffic pricing is as follows:

1 Day: £0.59
1 Month: £4.99
3 Months: £11.49
12 Months: £37.99

As well as fade audio option it has auto switch for day and night colours. Doesn't appear to make use of the light sensor on the iphone though.

Still no custom POIs Sad But on the upside I don't lose my favourites every time they update the app.

Google local search included. We already knew about that one though.

For UK map version is v845.2665.

Look at your volume options as there is a nice new touch in there to vary the nav instructions relative to the iPOD, works very well in use even when using A2DP Bluetooth audio - Mike

UK Traffic £37.99 per year, US Traffic $20 per year. Rip off Britain or what?

They don't get HD Traffic though in the USA so there is a difference in the data provided, still you always have the option to move over to the USA to take up the cheaper prices if you feel that strongly about it - Mike

I think the cost of commuting to work would outweigh any savings on TomTom traffic.

I notice on the About page it states the device ID. I'm now wondering if I were to puchase the next iPhone whenever it arrives would I be able to transfer the app and in-app purchases to the new device?

They tie the iphone to your tomtom account. Much like they do with their standalone sat navs. You can transfer your traffic subscription across to another iphone. It's just to make sure that people aren't using one subscription on multiple iphones.

The full list of changes from iTunes:

What's new

- HD TRAFFIC: The best traffic information available today - for the fastest route every time and the most accurate arrival time estimate. Available via in app purchase.

- GOOGLE LOCAL SEARCH: Find countless shops and businesses wherever you are, and navigate directly there. Access the latest Google listings from within the TomTom app.

- NEW MAP: Drive with the latest, most accurate map

- MUSIC FADING: Music fading will gently reduce volume while TomTom gives you driving instructions, and will return to normal volume between prompts.

- AUTOMATIC DAY & NIGHT MODE: Your app calculates local sunrise and sunset times to automatically adjust the screen brightness while driving, for a safer drive.

- ADD LOCATIONS from other applications and websites on your iPhone to your TomTom app and instantly navigate to them or store them as favorites for future use.

Ditto on the expense of HD Traffic. May well stuck with Navigon.

I can't see where the Add Locations feature is in the app.

Custom POI would be great, hopefully in a future update.

There's also the ability to alter the spoken volume, relative to the music volume. Now that's a REALLY useful feature, finally! Appears to work as well.

Add Locations sounds strangely like custom PoIs, no?

I'm wondering if there's an app specific tag, that will launch TomTom if you click on the relevant link in a website.

I just installed the update. Google search looks good. I added a couple of favourites using it which worked well. I'm tempted to buy traffic although I'm not sure which to get. Buying per day seems to make sense for me since I don't do a lot of travelling other that my daily commute. You get 64 single days for the price of a year. I like the interface tweaks although I still wish there way a way to quickly get back to the map from within the nested menus.

I don't think this would be allow a huge collection of POI's but single destinations. I suspect it merely registers a URI on the iPhone which other applications or websites can use to pass a destination to TomTom. Navigons had this for a while as there is the odd application that uses this plus it's how that third party postcode app worked with it.

Maybe it works with their Add To TomTom website buttons they talk about here though on a quick search cannot find any to click on to try...

Smilehttp://www.tomtom.com/lib/doc/TomTomTips/index.html?create_poi_set_button.htm

On a seperate point they've smoothed put the updating of the display as you drive. Before it had an annoying gap between updates. Not as bad as the old TomTom v3 type delays but not smooth either. Thankfully that's sorted in this update. It was never a problem other than it annoied me Smile
