Frustrated by the poor battery life of my new 730 (advertised as 5, lucky to get 2...and the battery life was one of the main reasons for buying this model) I am in vestigating options to avoid having long cables all over the dash (I just hate that!).

I have seen one of these battery mounts on ebay, apparently good for 10 hours. Has anyone got one? Any comments? thanks

One potential problem comes to mind that the standard screen mount for the device cannot always cope with normal weight how will it cope with the extra? Otherwise it seems like a good idea.

Bought one last year, well worth the cost as I can get up to 13 - 14 hours continuous use out of it on a single charge. Ideal for use in a vehicle only used occasionally and for walking around unfamiliar town centres.
Will stay on the screen with its suction mount providing you use the top of the dash to support the bottom so the weight is not on the suction mount.

Thanks xda, very encouraging.

One more question - how long does it hold its charge for if not used? Does the battery drain?

As with any device with a rechargeable battery it will slowly lose it's charge over a period of time, the longest I have left it is 6 weeks and still managed 7 hours of use and that was when my 720 was only able to stay powered up for 10 - 15 minutes on it's own battery. That has now had a new battery fitted and is back to just over 4 hours on one charge.

It does have a power on LED on the right hand side which is red when charging and turns green when fully charged but no other means of determining the actual charge remaining. It takes about 4 hours to fully recharge from flat using either a USB to TomTom lead or the TomTom Cigar lighter power lead.

I've also used it to recharge my O2 XDA Orbit.

It could be useful for those of us owning classic cars with positive earth. Presumably it'll also hold a 940?

Unless it comes with adaptors it would not fit the x40 as the x30 range has a mini USB as its main/power connector along with aerial and TMC connectors on the bottom whilst the x40/50 has a unique TomTom multiway plug.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the connector type. Sad
