Recently I email Sygic support with a list of suggestions for their Android release. The reply was very informative, and I thought it may be of interest to others so here it is:

Subject: Suggestions for Android platform

Hi

I understand that you welcome suggestions from users. I've been using Mobile Maps on the Android platform (HTC Hero; full s/w details below) for a month or so, and overall I'm very pleased with it. However, I do have some suggestions for improvements which I've listed below. Happy to send them somewhere else if you prefer, or to submit them individually. I can also go into more detail if you want. They're in decreasing order of importance (to me, at least!).

Software version being used: Mobile Maps 9, version 7.71 Build 7857D, RAM 8192Kb, Map version 7.80.

- Favourites are listed in distance order from the current location. This
isn't like, say, petrol stations where I simply want the nearest. If I'm
looking to travel to a favourite called "Fred's House", I want to be
able to find that in the list quickly. Please consider putting the
  favourites in lexical order.

### We are preparing new search - it should be possible to select to arrange results by distance, in lexical order and others.

- Scrolling is done with the vertical buttons on the right of the screen.
Please implement the normal Android scrolling (finger wiped up or down
  the screen).

### This is planned with one of the upcoming updates.

- Add live traffic information

### This is also planned, it will be added when we will have contracts with providers of these datas.

- Add live petrol prices locally

### As far as I know, this is not planned in the near future, but is sound like good feature, so maybe it will be added later.

- A bigger font on the information bar at the foot of the screen, or maybe
an option for it to be bigger. I could live with a slightly smaller map
screen to have a bigger font. I'm talking about the ETA, current speed,
  etc, font.

### We are preparing new User interface, that should solve this problem. Maybe also change of font size will be possible in the future.

- A compass! I very much like the arrow pointing to the destination, but
I'd also like to know what direction I'm travelling in. I can do that by
using a "north up" display, but I prefer direction of travel to be up.
There are multiple ways of displaying compass information. A small
compass pointing north would be OK, but better would be a small compass
with north up and an arrow pointing in the direction of travel.
Alternatively, an arrow similar to the "direction of destination" arrow,
but of a different colour, pointing north could be used.

### Also planned later, unfortunatelly I'm not able to tell you more specific date as it was not yet decided.

- Please document the UPI file format. The current conversion utility
isn't very robust, and if you documented the format then the work of
developing a better conversion utility would be done for you by the
community. It would also be ported to Linux (the platform I use), and
wouldn't cost you anything. Better service to customers, no cost to you
(other than documenting the format). How good is that?

### Thank you for the information, I will forward it responsible people, hopefully they will do something about it

- The default zoom level is a little low: we could use a bit more detail.
I have compared this to my TomTom 730, and the TT shows more of the road
ahead than you do. It's useful to see a bit more, too: at the moment, an
upcoming turning doesn't appear on the screen until very late.

### With new user interface also map view should change a bit, hopefully it will be clearer then.

- Use the native Android keyboard. Sorry, but it works better than the one
you implement. Yours isn't too bad, but the free and provided one is
  better.

### This is not currently possible as it will require heavy modification of application (due to missing native keyboard in Symbian). Currently we are preparing new keyboard together with new user interface, hopefully it will be much easier to use.

- Provide the ability to sound warning sounds but not to announce
directions. I prefer to navigate by looking at the screen, but I'd like
to be alerted to warnings, POIs, etc.

### This will be also possible with some of the next updates.

- Provide a female English voice. A female voice is easier to hear when I
  do want spoken directions.

### In iPhone version we already have female English voice, so probably it will be added also to Android version soon.

- Directions at every roundabout state, "Go straight over the roundabout
and take X exit". The expression "go straight over the roundabout"
implies that the direction of travel after the roundabout will be
approximately the same as it is before. To say "go straight over and
take the first exit", typically 90 degrees left, is confusing and
  non-intuitive phraseology.

### Information was forwarded to responsible person, hopefully it will be possible to change it easily.

- For most of the time, the "next action" icon (bottom left) is an arrow
pointing up. It's only when about a mile or so from the junction that it
changes to whatever the next action really is. Please show what the next
action will be; we know it may not be immediate as the distance to  next
action is shown next to the icon. We are old enough to assume that we go
straight on for the next X miles without having an arrow explicitly
  pointing upwards.

### This is good idea, it was also forwarded, maybe it will be added in the future.

I hope the above suggestions are useful.

Regards,
Keith Edmunds

You can contact them on support@sygic.com (better that you ask as you're the one that wants it!).

I have to say that from my contact with Sygic I have been very impressed with their support - open, honest, knowledable and helpful, all words which TT Support seem unable to understand! This reply continues that tradition. I wonder when the new version is coming out for Android though.

My understanding is the updates for the non-iphone platforms are due soon. Unfortunately soon has so far proved to be over 2 months.
