I just installed this an subscribed to your database again. The app looks very slick with loads of options. You do have to read the manual to set it up though. I think you might be wise to force a user to the Update Cameras section on the initial run and keep going there until they have registered and downloaded the first database.

As for suggested developments, the most obvious to me would be push notification of database updates.

I've been waiting for this and it doesn't dissapoint. I now only need my iPhone in the car and not my TomTom as well. That will be reserved for when I need navigation assistance.
To be honest I expected the app to cost a lot more, I guess the main revenue will be from the sales of the database.
A request for a future update - I notice that the vehicle speed display changes to red if you are over the speed limit for a displayed camera warning, I would like an audible sound too. I gave it five stars on the app store.

My recently bought Honda CRV came with a factory installed GPS. It's pretty good for navigation, but I as can't upload the camera alerts to it I often have my Garmin in the car too. Finally this app means I can cut out all the cabling and use the GPS for navigation and the iPhone app for the camera warnings. It's well configured and seems to be very user friendly. Well done everyone at PGPSW! Very Happy

edit.. and it's very well priced too!

Wonder if you could create a Android app that runs at the same time as a GPS app, so even if the GPS app doesn't allow custom POI's or warnings your app could handle the alerting in the background Very Happy

Great app!

Wondering whether it’s possible to have CamerAlert running in the background providing Sound Warnings whilst using the TomTom app. Has anyone tried this? Could be a good reason to JB.

This won't work on the iPhone 3G - purely due to lack of memory. With TomTom running no other program with a larger memory footprint (CamerAlert needs to have a 5MB database open in memory) has a chance of survival in the background.

It might work on the 3Gs.

Great app, used it through the average speed cameras on M25 this morning, not that I could get over 50! Would it be possible to display the Google Traffic information on the screen as well, as I use that everyday to try and avoid the big jams?
Thanks
Richrd.

Google Traffic is currently not available through the map plugin. We had that feature in an earlier version where we used the web based maps. But that used up too much bandwidth and processing power.

Will the app still run if the phone is in 'standby'?

I realise my original post about implementation on other PNAs confused the application (on iphone) with the database (on PNAs).Embarassed

Your database clearly has information in it to permit calculation of average speeds for the specs by the iphone application. Would that information be available to, eg, POI-Warner on Navigon (where I have my PGPSW camera files) so that they could consider providing the warning in their application (if I asked them nicely)? Similarly, Navigon are threatening to allow direct user-input POIs later this year, so they could use the info if they were prepared to, and it was permitted by PGPSW.

One thing that still confuses me Rolling Eyes is that there has been a mention in the 'specs' threads of more than just a 'start' and 'end' camera, with interim ones in some cases as well. Maybe I have misunderstood this, but if not does it complicate the turning on/off of the average speed warning particularly?

Good work on release of the app, chaps. Thank you.

You know the publisher is misspelled, right? It's listed as PoVketGPSWorld.com Ltd. Note the V.

Oh, and whilst I'm being annoyingly pedantic: "To ENSURE you have the latest camera information..." not "To INSURE you have..."

yes, it says 'SPECS' in the camera ID name! the app then knows it is an average speed camera and reacts accordingly. PNA manufacturers could quite easily do this. nav n go do, to some extent, but there system is flawed by the assumption that average speed cameras ALWAYS come in 2's.

Yes, we also have 'MIDDLE' cameras... again, this data is available if any manufacturers can be bothered to implement it's use - at present only drivesmart uses this data. in CamerAlert start and middle essentially act the same - i.e. it ensures the auto-average speed is turned on. the END cameras turn off / cancel the averaging. we also have a unique way for the app to detect if you have left a road between specs cameras and thus turn off the average speed automatically. within CamerAlert you can also turn on and off the average speed whenever you wish.
