If you have problems with the CamerAlert application please check through the forums to see if this is a common issue that we have posted a solution to.

If you still have an issue please post it in this forum section and we will sort it out as soon as possible.

I have beenusing the pocketgps database for a couple of years now, and have been waiting for the iPhone app.

Works very well and is easy to use.

Thankyou.

This does eat battery life, make sure you have a power lead in your car.

That's a known limitation. Sound control only works when a sound is currently playing (Thanks Steve!) and our announcements are not long enough to give you sufficient time for the adjustment.
I think this continues to work after the first sound is played until shutdown.
I suggest playing a silent sound file on startup may resolve this. Worth a try!

Sorry above post is moved from the camera alert anouncment page, looks a bit stupid now on it's own. Embarassed

Still it might be a fix for the volume control problem, so might be worth a try on the next beta test!

okay worked that bit out you had to register to link.

However, I think this linking to one device (although I can see why you do it to prevent giving it to mates) is a bot unfair.

I have a tom tom which I will use when going somewhere new and two iphones but I can only add the up to date speed cameras to one device without paying £19.99 for each.

No, because the app needs the data connection for the map, speed camera downloads/ submissions - Mike

I cannot open this app most of the time, and when I do get it open it crashes again after a few seconds. I have had the app now for about a week and never been able to use it yet.

Is there anyone out there that can help

Peter,

The app shutting on its own is strangely not always the app crashing, but a 'feature' of the iPhone operating system. When the system is short of memory the OS shuts down applications, making them appear to crash.

Have you tried doing a hardreset of the iPhone by holding the power button for about 10 seconds then sliding the reset slider? This is like booting a computer and starts off with clean memory again.

Despite the iPhone OS not allowing user tasks to run concurrently there are a number of system tasks that can run in the background including Mail, Safari, and the iPod all of which consume memory and over time can eat up all the system memory.

HI Mike,

yes I have tried that 3 or 4 times and still no joy, the only time I can get it to work is if I uninstall and reinstall the app then it will work for a short time before it crashes again.

for those with the 'crashing' problems... if you uninstall, reboot, then reinstall and run the app can you check in the settings to see if the 'track log' option is on or off?

i wonder if something is using up extra memory eg the track log recording in the background?

When I charge the iphone 3g via my car charger the CamerAlert app all works fine apart from there is no sound warning? Is this because I have it on permanent charge? (Which I need to do when running this app as it eats the battery life). Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

While connected to the car charger run the iPod app to confirm that your music volume is set loud enough. Also check the mute switch on the side of the device.
