So which GPS mount?

So now I know the TomTom is out and a little disappointed its using such an old chipset (sirfIII).

When is navigons out? also magellan are releasing one? any ideas?

Has anyone had a proper go of the tomtom one yet? Also anyone know what chipset is in the iphone 3GS anyway as I couldnt find it on google.

I use the TomTom car kit with both my 3G and the 3GS my wife owns and it makes a considerable difference to lock on times (TTFF) and accuracy on either iPhone, so the GPS side of things is very good, where it does let the side down though is the charger cable could do with more current capacity although it does work (just). The speaker it contains is also much better than the built in speaker the iPhone is saddled with but I don't use this as my car is equipped with its own Bluetooth system that uses the car speakers, but overall the car kit is a worth while investment as it offers a secure holder, power, amplified sound with augmented GPS reception.

Not cheap at nearly £100 and I modified mine to make it fit on a Brodit mount as I don't like windscreen suckers or the associated cables strewn around the car. One issue is if you have the iPhone in a case as it will make fitting the iPhone in the holder rather difficult, Jills 3GS doesn't fit unless I remove it from the accessory case it lives in, I use a Zagg Shield and don't suffer the same issue.

Not seen anything in terms of hardware from the other suppliers though - Mike

FWIW, the iPhone is still using the Hammerhead II chipset, which worked well for TomTom. But there are better chipsets now with lower power requirements more suited to mobile phones.
