According to the McGuider official website (which now redirects to a TeleAtlas page), McGuider is no longer part of the TeleAtlas portfolio and instead they recommend purchasing Sygic Mobile Maps 9.
Whilst SMM9 offers support for some newer devices (notably Android and Maemo) it is certainly not worth users of McGuider 2009 upgrading as the core software in both versions (as long as McGuider has been updated using the assistant software) is the same. The map version is also the same between both releases.

Thanks, scarymonkey, for all your advice on the forums about Sygic. I've just ordered Sygic from Teleatlas. One major difference I've seen between McGuider and Sygic is that, according to McGuider's FAQs, McGuider can only be run from the supplied SD card and not from any other card or internal memory but Sygic can be installed on any card. So I suppose there could be a benefit for McGuider users to switch at some point.

I have no idea why the McGuider FAQs where changed for the last couple of months but it was always possible to move to either phone memory or a new card once - I did exactly this when I moved McGuider to an 8GB card earlier in the year.
