Before people start bleating about using my phone whilst in a commercial a/c. This is about using it in a private a/c.

I know there will be no signal in flight mode, but nobody I know with an Iphone is able to get any sort of GPS position from an aircraft.
My previous phone, the Orbit ll worked very well in the air.

Anybody know why the Iphone can't pick up a GPS signal in the air, even just a GPS fix ie no downloadable map required.

Assuming it's not in 'Airplane Mode' then there is no reason why it shouldn't be able to.

Get a fix before you enter the cabin and ensure it has a good sky view and it should be able to maintain a fix.

You need to have the radio ON for GPS to work though.

The phone is a radio transmitter/receiver as is Bluetoth and WiFi. The GPS is a radio receiver.

Switching to Airplane Mode switches all these to OFF.
