Has there been any suggestion from TT that they will be updating the iPhone app with any additional features such as Advanced lane guidance?

If not then I may well spend my cash on either Co-Pilot or Navigon.

Too early for TT to be promising updates yet. As it is, I've now got 'em all and it doesn't rate in the top three.

As for the car-cradle, TomTom UK PR still threatening a 'Summer' release. I don't know about you but for me Summer ends at the end of this month so they'd better hurry up!

I used it to get to the swimming pool whose coffee bar I'm now sat in and for the first time I had an iPhone app that struggled to get a lock and kep jumping on/off the M3 and onto adjacent side roads. Switched to CoPilot and it was quite happy to show our true position.

I have a Griffin Powerjolt which seems to be more than capable of charging the 3GS whilst Nav and iPod is running but the Powerjolt Reserve cannot.

Last year's Powerjolt was a 1000ma charger - but this years current Powerjolt and Powerjolt SE models appear to be only 500ma which is not enough... and they both have "Works with iPhone" approval too !

This car charger issue appears to be a right mess...

I was hoping that you had a contact at TT who may have mentioned if feature updates were likely or not.

The other sat nav options were forthcoming with update information almost immediately on release of v1 to the App Store.

I would prefer sat nav with TeleAtlas mapping as I find Navteq to be lacking in comparison. Navteq don't even have the series of housing estate roads around where I live and they have been there for years.

TT have been very tight lipped about the iPhone app and if there are updates then they have as yet resolved not to discuss them.

Can you provide a source from Apple Inc that backs up your statement?

The iPhone OS and SDK includes, amongst many other suitable functions, the CFFTP API, a basic FTP capability that enables file transfer to and from any given application's sandbox - look in the Apple Developer community for more. Other applications use less agreeable WebDAV functionality. I'm sure there's much more - I'm not a developer so don't have much experience other than as a user.

As other posters have mentioned, there are many applications who have passed App Store approval through numerous iterations for whom their entire raison d'etre is file transfer and management; some have been in the App Store almost since day one, and at least two that I have seen as staff picks in the App Store.

Out of interest, which are your current top three in order of preference? Smile

And have you solved the Co-Pilot routing problems which have made me favour other apps?

The release of TomTom is good but is clearly a a rushed / 'work in progress' so far I have found the following features missing or not working correctly:

* Navigate to contacts does not work.
* No safety screen options, ie the ability hide map at a specified speed.
* No lane asisstance when exiting motorways
* Menu structure tiresome, after navigating down the menu structure there's no 'done' or 'exit' options, instead you have to keep selecting back back etc.
* Navigate to POI, all the entries of not capitalised correctly
* No text to speech options
* Mount option just a screen showing 'coming soon'

Good points IQ routes available, GPS fix and lock to roads better than other products. Overall its not a bad product, it's missing some features the biggest issue is the price.

It's routing that's made me go for TomTom. That and UI.

Darren, I'm a prospective buyer of a sat nav app for the iPhone 3GS.
Which apps do you rate as the top three please?

I've got Navigon, Copilot and TomTom. What I have found is that the routing on both the Navigon and Copilot have been, lets say not optimal and their ETA's are excessive.

On a particular route Copilot claimed it would be 2hrs, Navigon 2hrs 15mins while it actually only took 1hr 30mins.

Now I have TomTom - I planned the same route and it came back with 1hr 29min...!

Using Darren's route profile settings for CoPilot (its in the Copilot part of the forum and not under iPhone).... CoPilot with the same route now comes back with a more accurate 1hr 19mins.

So hopefully with these setting CoPilot will be more accurate.

Oh and I have also noticed that with TomTom although I'm on the M25 it sometimes thinks I'm on an A road roughly parrallel to the M25... no such issue with CoPilot.

Despite all of that I still personally prefer the look & feel of TomTom - but thats been the same since owning both on the Windows Mobile platform! Embarassed

Not yet but custom routing allows infinite customisation and it's already a lot better with some simple tweaks. I've started a thread in TH CP section where we can share our configs.

As the mount isn't available, what did you expect?

Fix has been notably poorer than the other apps for me in the brief time I've had it.
