Not sure if you'd want this to happen in your pocket, but a warning perhaps not to leave an iPhone unattended in your car:

I wouldn't worry about this too much.

If you leave an iphone unattended on the passenger seat of a car in the UK it will be very likely to get nicked before it has a chance to catch fire.

on a more serious note, mine gets warm to touch while it's charging or using lots of data/gps but never 'hot'...

maybe the article is missing out some vital facts like it was very sunny and hot and the glass of the window magnified the suns rays burning the belkin case it was in which, in turn, lit the seat and iphone...
