I have the Go 740. I imagine this is a very silly question but...how can I change the icon on my POI categories? I don't want to create a new icon, just switch from one available icon to another. When I select Manage POIs I get the following options: Add POI, Warn when near POI, Delete POI, Edit POI, Add POI Category, Delete POI Category. I cannot find an option to Edit POI Category so that I can change the icon. Do you have to delete the category and recreate it and all its POIs? That seems unlikely.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give, Asphodel

Are you referring to TomTom's own POIs which were inbuilt to the device, or to custom POIs which you have installed yourself?

If they are TomTom POIs, the simple answer is that you can't.

If you mean custom POIs, then each category consists of two files, one with a .ov2 extension, and one with .bmp. You simply change the .bmp file to something else, but it must be given the same name. It must be a bitmap file, with dimensions of 22x22 pixels (although you may be able to get away with 24x24).

Ever since I updated to the latest map (v830.2306) on my TT One v2 most of my own POI's icons have disappeared...

The POI is still there, but it shows NO icon for it..

Even some of the TT icons (Petrol Stations) don't show on my TT..

I've been on to TomTom and all they tell me is to back up my POI's before installing the NEW map - which I did..

Any ideas....??

Look under "Change Preferences".
On the first screen there should be an option to "Show POI on map".
Tick the box next to the POI that you want the icon to show on the map.
The more you tick the slower the map will update as you drive along.

All the ones I need are ticked... (27 items)

It all worked perfectly before I updated to the latest map...

Perhaps I need to bite the bullet and try a NEWER TT??

When you say the icon, are you referring to the .bmp file? If so, use Explorer to look at the contents of your map folder. Do you see the .ov2 files for your custom categories? If so, do you see the associated .bmp file for each .ov2 file?

If not, do you have a map bakup of your previous version? Look there for the .bmp files and , if there, copy them to the new map folder.

Sledgehammer & nut comes to mind. Spend a little bit of time working out why the POIs don't currently work, rather than just throwing away a (probably) perfectly good TomTom.

Do you get any icons at all displayed? e.g. Red squares, rather than the icon you were expecting.

Were these POIs downloaded from PGPSW or somewhere else? (i.e can they be downloaded again, or were they ones you had made yourself?).

I have both the .bmp & the .ov2 files for each of the poi's.

The .bmp file works when I click on it.

I don't get any icons on the screen ( nor a red square) - but it shows the POI, just no icon....

I download most of my POI's from www.poihandler.com, but my TT isn't showing some of the POI's that came with my TT - like Petrol Stations...

Not sure it'll help but it can't hurt. Run the Clear Flash tool found here . Run it 3 times.

And you have reset your unit, right?

I'll give the FLASHTOOL a crack when I get home...

Reset the unit - yes, took the TT apart as my Reset button has packed up... disconnected then re-connected the battery and re-booted device...

Does your device have an SD card? if so just pop that out and back in to force a reset as this is much easier than taking the battery out - Mike

Done that many times - when the TT decides to lock up occasionally...

Will give the FlashTool a go when I get home, and report back...

Tried the FlashTool 5 times on my device - to no avail...

Checked one of my POI Icons, and it's 22x22 and saved in a 256-colour BMP format..

If I go Browse Map - Find - POI - POI Near You ------ and then click on a POI it'll show me it in the screen with the BMP icon....

However, as soon as I press SELECT, the screen goes back to the MAP with the POI there, but not showing ANY Icon...

You have me confused with these statements. What does it show if it's not showing the icon?

This is all I get on the screen, if I go to select the POI that I am aiming for..

The above example is from a POI group I created myself

However, the SAME works for the TT provided Petrol Stations....
