It's early days yet but I'm hoping that the new iPhone mount will not only be a screen mount but also a fixed mount

If you study the TomTom photo

It's possible that the holder slides into the screen mount, therefore a fixed option may also be possible.

It looks like this might fit an iPhone with a slim case as well.

Just bought the updated Griffin Tuneflex (the strangely named Tuneflex AUX Smartclick). Unfortunately it picks up way more interference than its predecessor, and is quieter, so I'll have to downgrade to the old one again Sad

We won't know for sure until TT get off their bums and reveal more (if ever!).

Don't forget that the iPhone 'holder' rotates from the suction mount to support landscape mode - to reduce the risk of accidental collapse, I doubt they are designed to part... but you never know!

As it uses the EasyPort there are already third party solutions that offer fixed mounts.

All you need is the Arkon adapter, and that can then easily be affixed to a Brodit ProClip.

Arkon have a link on their home page to international sellers, the UK is BuyBits.com £4.59. HTH.

And if you're looking to attach it to an existing Brodit ProClip, they even have an Arkon adapter with swivel, #215204:

I have to say the simple solution that I use for both the wife's car and mine is to fit magnets to various positions on the facia, they are discrete in colour and size and universal for my 3G and her version 1. I just put the sticky metal plate onto the back of the iphone and I even have it covered by the rubber skin case for the 3G.
They are cheap and very quick and easy to use, as you can do it whilst still looking at the road! The magnet by the way does NOT interfere with any of the iphones operations

Magnets might affect the compass on the 3GS!

Surely it is an electronic compass, I think. anyway the loudspeaker must have some sort of magnet in it?

It is electronic but still affected by magnets and other materials. It displays a warning if something is interfering with it.
