I need to upgrade my TomTom.

I would like a dedicated GPS navigation system + speed trap detector.

One feature they all seem to be missing is a means of complying with SPECS - that is to say showing your average speed, as against the limit, through any set of SPECS cameras.

Is this feature available yet, if not should I wait for a few months?

There's nothing around that I know of at the moment that does what you want - not on a TomTom at any rate.

Remember though that the speed LIMIT in a specs zone is the quoted limit on the POIs, it's not what you should average. In reality, you should be keeping under or up to the limit at all times (just as you keep up to 70 usually on motorways anyway Wink ).

I have always worked on the principal that I set my cruise control to, say 73 mph, in a 70 mph SPECS zone.

The problem is that if one is obstructed down to say 50 mph, one should be able to make up the lost time before the next camera. The maths get complicated though!

In the above example you would have to go over the top speed limit in the UK in order to "make up the lost time".

In fact to "make up the lost time" in any SPECS Zone you would have to break the limit of that SPECS zone. Remember whilst it is an average of, say, 50 mph, I'm pretty sure it's not OK to enter the first half at 20 mph and then run through the rest at 90 mph as long as the average is only 50 mph. I always consider the "average" speed to be the maximum too...

Also the amount of time "lost" would be a few seconds in reality and could easily be made up outside the SPECS Zone.

As Paul says, surely a 50MPH SPECS zone is to enforce a 50MPH limit by checking your average. It is still illegal to excede 50MPH, so you can't legally 'make up the time' in any specs zone.

PS. Igo based software does handle specs cams, albeit badly. Confused

Doesn't it always assume that there are even numbers of cameras? So if you pass the final camera and there were only 3 it continues calculating the average speed....

In fact when you enter a 50 mph SPECS zone one of the first things you pas will be huge 50 mph speed limit signs, so there is no way to "make up the lost time" as you'd have to go over the limit to do so....

Yes. It calculates the average between Specs 1 and Specs 2, switches off between 2 and 3 then restarts at Specs 3 and continues ad nauseum, unless you rewrite the specs handling routine in the interface.
