|
|
I've just created an web shortcut icon for our web-site for use with iPhone and v1.3 Firmware Equipped iPod touch devices.
Is there anyone here who can test? It works fine on the iPod Touch but I don't have an iPhone! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Nope...there are far better devices out there for far less money. OK so the user interface is nice and shiny but when you get past that it's a bit overpriced and mediocre really. _________________ Paul

Each to their own I guess. I've now got an iPod Touch and it's very good, indeed it is all I need as I use Blackberry for phone/email functionality, something they do better than the iPhone.
For casual browsing and music/vide though the Touch is very good. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have to agree there...Safari on the iPhone/iPod Touch has the best mobile browser available at the moment. On Windows Mobile my browswer of choice is Opera Mini. It does some things in a similar way to Safari. _________________ Paul

Works fine darren! Just added the shortcut to my phone now!
p.s. The defalt phone is a bit US, but if you action the jailbreak software on it or the iPod Touch you start to give it the sort of functionallity of a PDA. It still has a bit of a way to go but I'm confident they will get there eventually. I like it!
p.p.s they just unlocked the sim lock on upto firmware 1.1.3 phones. _________________ Dom

I must say the browser implementation is a joy. faced with pecking at a tiny keyboard on my PocketPC, using the Blackberry with it's tiny screen or the Touch, the Touch wins.
I'm tempted to get an iPhone and Jail Break it but now see news posts that the next major release will be further locked down and I can't be bothered with having to hack it at each update! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Then Don't update it!
I didn't update mine to 1.1.3 untill a week ago only untill I was sure it would work. Then the jail break team wrote a slick update prgram and a 30 min wait and now I'm updated.
The BIG question. If you buy a 1.1.3 phone now you can unlock it in a number of ways. See here, and if they try to close the loop holes you'll still be better off than the next 1.1.4 owners who'll have to wait till some cleaver sole hacks the phone all over again. _________________ Dom

With the SDK on the cards, rumour has it that there will be no further locking.
Also, in other countries (France), manufacturers aren't allowed to lock their in with service providers.
It's very easy for me to say, I don't have a £270 phone or iPod at risk of being locked but I do listen to the rumours _________________ Andy

I can almost guarantee they will continue to be locked. Apple risk losing a sizeable amount of income if they weren't. I have no issue with that but wish they were available on all networks. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I don't think it's apple who are at risk but the contracts they have with the network providers. As long as apple are seen to be tackling the exploits uncovered by the hackers they will remain to be sitting pretty, the networks however who have a sizable investment in the iphone who are most at risk! _________________ Dom

Do they though? The handsets are sold at much closer to cost than other phones and the service providers have to pay Apple a lot more than they would any other manufacturer? _________________ Darren Griffin |

A really old thread I know but I couldn't justify starting anew.
For you lucky guys the best online tv guide (IMHO) have released a free iPhone version. |

There is a better one that I used to favour called tvGuide but now I just use the Sky+ app as it has remote record built-in. _________________ Darren Griffin |
