Lost My Favourites

Help please Embarassed

Just connected my tomtom one to the pc - home said there is a new map update available, so I downloded it (having backed up the data to my PC beforehand)

I switched on the unit and all of my favourties and pocketgps speed camera warning sounds/distances have disappeared (the locations are still present).

I assume I have done something wrong, but is there any way of reinstalling the above, without having to do it manually

Copy over the MapSettings.cfg file. THis holds the information you are missing.

It is worth saving your favourites as POIs. Then most of these problems are avoided.

no you didnt do anything wrong happens to me every time I get a map update. Pain in the you know what. there have been some posted work arounds but I have tried them all and given up in the end. just resigned to doing them manually

FWIW, this is one of the reasons I don't see any point in handing over money for new maps on subscription. You lose your favourites, and you lose the changes you made.

Too many of the TomTom changes made to change their business model are too incomplete at the moment.

If you copy the MapSettings.cfg file from the old map folder to the new map folder it might work, but if you find the device is re-booting or failing to start up correctly you can try two other tricks:

1/ Connect it to the PC and use Home to rename a favourite, you only need to do this to a single entry and the device should now work (I have not tried this myself, but quite a few chaps on a US based GPS forum have reported it works).

2/ Use POIEdit to convert the MapSettings.cfg file in to a Custom POI file as this method does work and gives you the added benefit of adding phone numbers to each POI as well as not having a 48 location limit - Mike

I copied Mapsettings.cnf over. I have no favourites anyway, they're all pois, but I still had to set up my speed camera warnings again.

mapsettings.cfg contains POI warnings and distances, favourites and recent destinations.

Buy a new map and you get a new .cfg file. You can copy over an older on and it 'may' work but it isn't a given.

MikeA has posted a work-around that allows you to extract the favourites and save them as POIs in a Custom POI Group. A far better solution for addresses and one that can be backed up and copied between maps and devices easily.
