Just purchased a Satmap10 and have been delving through the extensive PDF user guide. Have also installed the latest software/firmware update from the Satmap site.
I did find the user guide a hard slog and must admit it left me a little confused despite reading it through twice.

Why can't it tell you in simple terms with a list of instructions on what you should do to start a planned walk. Its only through reading some of the posts on this Forum that have given me an idea, but I'm still not sure.
I guess the only way is to go out and try it with a short local walk.

Seems like a nice bit of kit but do think the user manual could be improved by including simple step by step instructions for carrying out the main function. For example How to follow a saved/planned route, and not forgetting to rest the trip data etc.

Maybe its me, maybe I'm a bit thick but I dont think so. Confused

I'm planning and leading a 10 mile walk in Derbyshire soon with a group and don't want to look like a complete idiot by forgetting something Crying or Very sad

Watch this space............... Sad

Welcome to the forum, try using the device locally before you really need to rely upon it in anger, this way you will be more at ease with the options and using the unit on the fells.
Its a very good GPS unit, get to know the controls and what it offers and you won't look back, if you get stuck or have any questions about using the active10 just ask on the forum as there is quite a merry band of us on this forum that enjoy using the unit - Mike

welcome to the group. i live a little further north and venture into Derbyshire for everyday walks
i will echo mike's advice go on a walk where you know the route;
consult the unit press the varying controls,
DONT forget to take some of the instructions with you. - just those that you feel a need to get a grasp on basic functions. Been ther and got the t-shirt
Even a walk round the block at home will give a trail.- so not very long walks will give a result that can be viewed and analysed
Its always better to mess up on your own rather than infront of friends Embarassed
And if you have a problem a question on this board will get you an answer
quite quickly

Even i using it for nearly 2 years don't use ALL the functions - but overall i am really happy with it
Mind i also tranfer the routes to Memory Map and consult Memory map to
view potential walking routes to/ from bus stops

Welcome - and another quick tip.

Once you have a route planned on your A10 then if you bring the Compass screen up, press the lower button on the LHS (it's 'marked' by a pointer). This will bring up the "bearing to next waypoint" marker - very useful for checking which path/direction on otherwise featureless area (Moorland / Kinder Scout / etc) where the path may not be obvious (or even there).

Thanks for the welcome and all the info.

I guess I will soon get used to my new gadget and begin to enjoy new walks without constantly referring to my paper maps.
