I have WAAS enabled on my 60CSX and normally get about 15-18ft Location.
As I understand it, a D should show on the satellite bar when the WAAS/EGNOS signal is recieved from one of the the three satellites 39,37 or 33.
I am not getting a D showing at all so am I actually receiving the EGNOS signal even when receiving a strong signal from one of the satellites.
Is anyone getting a D showing or is there another way to know if WAAS/EGNOS is working? |

This happened with firmware release 3.90, have you just upgraded?
I'm guessing the way to tell now is to check that you have a strength bar for a satellite with a PRN 33 or greater. Differential was usually indicated when the bar had a solid fill. |

Unfortunately here in the UK reception of the EGNOSS signal requires you to be out in the open with very good satellite visibility to the south(ish) direction. Signal levels (esp to the northern areas of the UK) are quite low compared with the normal GPS constellation. The WAAS/EGNOS sytems are in geostationary orbits and their signals are 'beamed' to specific regions.
I've had reception on my Colorado 300 once or twice but I tend to turn it off as it is one of those features that reduces battery life (according to GARMIN). _________________ Phil |

Thanks for the replies.
Living in the northern part of the country I guess that I am probably not receiving a strong enough signal.
This would appear to be confirmed by the fact that enabling/disabling WAAS seems to make no difference to the location distance. |

I've received WAAS on my eTrex Vista up here in North Yorkshire in the past. It takes some considerable time to lock on. But eventually, the bars were bristling with Ds and the quoted accuracy was in single figures of feet.
However I found I needed to be on high ground with an unobstructed view south and with the receiver pointing south as well. And apparently, if set to WAAS but not locked on, the accuracy is worse than if you'd set it to Normal.
So all in all, I never try using it now.
