It's a bit annoying, I agree.

I don't really understand how it all works but I think that the 'latest' maps issued by Garmin are 1 or 2 versions behind the latest from Navteq, someone else might be able to confirm if this is true and explain why.

The latest Garmin map has not been dated for certain to the best of my knowledge. the previous quarterly, 2009.1x was based on Navteq's 10/08 release. So as a guess this one is a Jan/09, or perhaps 12/08. The purchase of the map is just one facet of the map update, albeit a large part. Compiling for Garmin display, any POI additions, DEM shading and lane-assistance updating all require additional time. Perfectly normal in the PND world. TomTom's latest was actually based on a three (4?) month old TeleAtlas update when it was released to owners. Now as far as a road opened in the past few months, it could take quite some time for it actually to appear in one of the two major map company updates. You'll sometimes find corrections made in the Navteq release first, and other times in TeleAtlas. And occasionally a road may not find itself into either company's map, even tho it's been there for years.

I have successfully installed 2010 and the file sizes are as follows with the 2009 files sizes in () and the 2009.10 update file sizes in {}:

Gmapprom - 1,679,488 (1,604,160) {1,630,976}
Gmap3d - 319,376 (260,660) {284,336}

So it is good to see that changes are at least being made.
The base map (gmapbmap) and the timezone (gmaptz) don't change

what is strange though is that the junction view - held in the JCV folder is much smaller for the 2010 release.

2009 Original - 187,587
2009_10 update - 205,282
CNE2010_10 - only 98,204 !!!

Can anyone else confirm this file is smaller

I didn't bother with the update but my friend has it and the file size he has is

2009.11 = gmapsupp.img 1.55GB
2010.10 = gmapsupp.img 1.59GB

When The 2010.10 update was downloaded from garmin the program was 4.38GB

The download includes Garmin's Mapsource, thus the size is larger than the map alone.

The map was updated. Very Happy Cool

I submitted a change in road junction (Mount Road' near the Aldi in Kidsgrove Stoke-on-Trent ) on the Navteq site.

This was done around early March and has now been updated.
