Pertinent to nothing ........... Cool

In Canada, 'regular' unleaded octane is 87. Then a mid blend is 89 and 'super' would be 91.

I noticed that in New Zealand and Australia the lower blend was also 95.

(also for what it is worth, regular unleaded here in Toronto this morning is 85 Canadian cents per litre. --- I'll let you math guys get migraines trying to figure out the equivalent cost in British currency.

To Dennis.......do you really get that many mpg (ah, the good old days of measurements Laughing ) in your van??!! Wow!!!

Typical 95p per litre in UK would be approx 1.72 Canadian Dollars, if I have my maths correct.

Looks like we pay over twice your rate Crying or Very sad

Saw a program a year ago where they showed the most popular vehile in Venezula was an MPV with a 100 litre fuel tank.

Cost to fill it

$1 (One dollar)

See also this story from Janaury 2008. 42p to fill an average car...

Mind you the downside is huge....

do you use US gallons in Canada? If so 20 of our gallons is almost 25 American ones, so your MPG figures will look much worse than ours.

OK, final figures for my year 2008/09.

Miles : 46,344
Fuel : 868.76 Litres
Cost : £3,820.02 (Excludes VAT)

I use 4.54609 litres = 1 gallon.

Therefore 53.34 mpg, cost 8.24 pence per mile (so I don't drive anywhere to pick up "cheaper" fuel).

The difference between US gallons and real gallons is they have 16 fluid ounces to a pint whereas we have 20 - means they can brag about being able to drink more pints than we can before needing an urgent visit.

As Ye Olde Englishe Rhyme goes ...

A pint of pure water
Weighs a pound and a quarter.

Or...
"A litre of water, is a pint and three quarters"

From the same stable as:
"Two and a quarter pounds of jam, weigh about a kilogram" and
"A metre measures three foot three, it's longer than a yard you see".

Cue: "What's a mile, Grandad?" Rolling Eyes
