I need to put width restriction POI's on my TomTom and have been trawling the Internet to see what is available and I came across this website:

http://www.lowbridges.com/

I am interested in the LoadX Weight and Width Restrictions Database.

Is this a pukka website ( and not a scam ) ?
Has anybody on here brought this and used it ?
Does it work alright and is the information up to date ?

I *think* it's OK, I've heard it mentioned before on the forums.

Only thing is, I don't see how simple POIs are going to help much as you can't easily get a TomTom to route round them, you'' just get a warning when you are already heading straight towards them.

It needs to work like the London congestion zone or ferries do, where the TT warns you as soon as you set up the route, and offers an alternative.
I suspect you need TomTom "Work" to get that sort of functionality.

I think those are very old files, and aren't being updated now.

The Low Bridges one only has 81 locations.

This is an area that we are currently discussing internally. It's now firmly on our long list of to-dos!

Thanks for the replies so far gentlemen.
It's not so much the height restriction , but the width limits that I am interested in.
I am about to get a new much bigger van at work and the days of being able to fit through width limits will be long gone.
So I just wanted to make life a bit easier for myself when I start driving my new 'bus' Crying or Very sad

I know that it is not ideal , but I I think I am going to give that LoadX Weight and Width Restrictions Database a go.
At least I can set it up so that POI appears on the screen and gives me a bit of warning.

You can always use "Recalculate" and "avoid part of route" if you see one coming up.
You just can't get it to avoid several automatically.

Have a look in the HGV forum...

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=53

About 8 posts down, there is a link within, which has significantly more low bridges contained and weights/widths too i think.

Good luck!

Hi

How about this device here http://www.pronav.co.uk/ its £199.00 from Maplins it allows you to put in vehicle length/height/width etc.
Bridge heights and road widths and weights aready built in.

Mike

Hi Keith
I use LowBridges for the BridgeX height database but I have no knowledge of the LoadX file.

The BridgeX file is updated just the same as the PGPSW files, i.e. by the subscribing membership and releases come out about every 2 months. I find it useful as my criteria is any bridge below 12' 9" otherwise I stand to remove the aircon from the roof of the coach.

Presumably the LoadX file would be updated in a similar manner.

Hope the info is of use to you.

Hello John,
Well I did buy the LoadX and have put it on my TomTom but although it has a lot of width restrictions up in the North of England there is hardly any in the South ( Guess where I am ).
So it is not a lot of good really , but I tried.

Now what did I do with that drawing board I've got to go back to ?

Does anyone know if Bridge X is any good or is that all up north?

I don't know about Bridge X , but I brought Load X which is a load of old pony.
I work mainly in Kent & Essex and whilst in Kent one day I checked to see how far the closest POI was that I uploaded from LoadX and it was 130 miles away.

I certainly did my money buying that !!!!!

Make sure you check thoroughly before parting with any cash would be my advice to you.

Bridge heights and road weights are one area we are considering covering with our POI system. I'm sure we can do a better job!

I have been compiling a width restriction database for a while now. Although it is pretty much local to me. The majority of these have been entered by me, and I would be more than happy to forward the files I have as a starting point to a more comprehensive database that could help us all.
If admin could just email me and I'll send 'em in.....
