It was 3 months to the day and my TT940 appears to have given up the ghost in terms of being able to receive a signal enabling me to receive the LIVE services.

I had already purchased an extension so that ain't the problem.

Device updated to latest App also new maps installed too. Still no signal. I have tried the device in different locations and still no signal.

TomTom have asked me re-install the App which I have done. Still no joy. I also rolled back to a previous known working setup but still nothing.

Looks like next step is send back to TT for repair.

Has anyone else suffered a similar failure of their device and know what the problem was ??

Thanks.

If it was "three months to the day", don't you think that's a bit of a coincidence?
Sounds like TT have messed up the subscription.

who knows!

TT are happy that my subscription is in order. They are more concerned that I can't even get a signal.

I would suspect the internal SIM card has been de-activated, and therefore no signal.

No different to a PAYG mobile.

Have you done the basic tests? What is the "network" status? What do the Live services show as their status? Is your device accepting your account okay?

And perhaps most important, did you have any other device on your tomtom account before the x40?

Network status is: NOT CONNECTED.

There is no signal strength on the indicator.

Before the x40, I've had a 930, a 510 and a TTNav on an IPAQ on this account. I go way back !!

I suspect this problem is out of my hands and I now await TomTom to arrange to take it away and repair it.

I think you are right - assuming there is normally signal, and you've tried in another location, then it sounds like a repair/replacement needed.

Hi,

did you try a factory reset?

But save your mapsettings.cfg first, otherwise you loos all favourites, recent destination etc.

You could always see if it is likely to be the SIM being disabled by turning the device on near a computer speaker or a telephone and seeing if you get the buzzing interference that mobiles normally cause. If you get the buzzing at turn on then it stops, this would sound like the mobile part is trying to communicate but the SIM is not allowed on the network. If there is no interference the mobile part may be faulty.

I assume the unit is charged as it disables the mobile part as the battery is running down.

You also say you have had many previous devices on the account. That is a recipe for disaster as the TT servers cannot cope with more than one device being registered to an account, even if you do not use the older devices any more. It frequently ties the subscription to the old device so even if you subscribe for a new device, it allocates that subscription to the old device. This could have led to your SIM being disabled but I would still look at other issues as I have not heard of any TT SIMs being disabled yet.

Yes, mine had that.

Usual TomTom support run around and then eventually sent for repair.

The repairers in Scotland sent back a new one.

hijacker

what was the response from Tom Tom??

Rather strangely, mine has done exactly the same..... 3 months to the day - I was planning a route to an unfamiliar location and running a route demo when part way through the "no traffic signal" icon appeared, since then no live services, sim shows not connected etc.

now awaiting attention from Tom Tom second line support....

They have finally accepted that it would appear to be a hardware fault and the unit has been despatched today for repair. Have been told most repairs have a 10 working day turnaround time. GREAT!!!

Will let you know how I get on and hopefully what the problem was.

I had similar, and like you it was 3 months to the day. after a few responses from TT support, an app update a factory reset all was well. It still reboots when it loses a gsm signal though.

edit, got an extra months live as recompense, and I'd already paid for a month, it was set to expire on 14/04/09 but for some reason their system set it last week to expire on 14/02/09 Shocked Mad . A snotty email soon sorted that, well sort of, now got my live till 02/04/09 Rolling Eyes .

Received back today and all is now well.

Advice note says that the powerboard was replaced?

TT have also credited my account with lost days of LIVE services.
