Have just installed McGuider ver 7.7 Build 1458D maps version 7.7 onto my Nokia N95 8Gb from the supplied SD card.

Surely McGuider is now TomTom's version for smartphone PDAs.

The menus are almost the same as TomTom and the file directory structure is the same with the same file names. Surley no coincidence.

I find the route compilation to be very slow. I thought the prog had crashed at the 'reconstructing route' phase because it took so long.

Is this normal?

I use the PDA version of this software and the similarity to the TomTom application makes it very easy to use this software if switching brands from the red handed logo product.

My installation is of the Pcket PC type, I have not issues with route calculation speed, it simply works - Mike

My TTN6 Maps are so out of date, I was thinking of migrating to a new product. Is this McGuider any good on the N95 8GB?

There is a current bug in the Symbian version of McGuider which has been fixed by a new exectuable. The bug causes the app to crash when using custom POI files with alerts. Unfortunately the fix it was pulled from McGuider Assistant after 1 day - apparently because TeleAtlas could not cope with the support queries about the upgrade process. It is hoped it will be made available again soon though.

Use wise, there are few complaints from users of McGuider, but like all programs it does have its own little quirks.

Hi!
Did you manage to copy McGuider off of a legit 4GB card, and get it to run on your internal 8GB?
I can't manage with just 4GB on the phone, and McGuider only sells SDs it seems!
Regards

|McGuider do allow you to transfer the contents of the supplied card to a larger capacity memory card ONCE and only ONCE - You will need to contact them to get the details and codes to carry this out, but I am not too sure if they will let you copy/ activate the software on built in memory - Mike

As per McGuider instructions I copied the contents of my legitimate, purchased, McGuider SD card to the N95 internal memory. The prog then self installed and I activated as normal.

As previously mentioned my only gripe is the very slow route construction . You also apparently have to turn on the GPS manually before starting McGuider.

The newer 2009 version doesn't seem to have this 'unable to activate' issue that plagued the 2008 version when it was released. Also there is an activation option available on the McGuider website now - so no more having to phone TeleAtlas 'not-suppport' for help.

ok, thanks for the replies!
I might purchase McGuider then. Only unfortunate thing is that TomTom surely will slowly kill off McGuider now when they have bought TeleAtlas.

Why? The more companies that use the map data the better. Many other companies use TA data and TomTom don't even have an offering on many of the platforms so I doubt they would wish to 'kill off' Sygic.

Darren, I took the reply to mean that TomTom would kill of the McGuider line of products rather than Sygic (and its Drive platform). McGuider is really a TeleAtlas product built using Sygic Drive, despite TeleAtlas supports best efforts in passing off any issues with it to Sygic.
