I'm going to start a ball rolling and see if theres enough interest to keep it going.

Has anyone tried any of these open source maps - if so, how good are they. Also does anyone know of any others, particularly a UK or EU project

New Zealand Open GPS

How much interest is there in open source maps, given the complaints we regularly see over the pricing and qulaity of maps, I would think quite a high level of interest, but are they good enough? It seems the open source community has embraced Garmin formats, does anyone know if other formats (tomtom and Navman) are availble?

A New Zealand member of another forum advised that the OpenSource map for his country was very good, confirmed by a recent visitor he recommended it to.

Open Street Mapping coverage will really depend upon where you are in the country, some areas have a very well defined coverage with greater levels of detail than the TA/ NT mapping.
Other areas can be devoid of any coverage, but you can add detail to the map yourself, it takes a little getting used to but once you start it can become very addictive - Mike
