JIM CLARK RALLY TAKES TO THE STREETS

The 2009 Jim Clark Rally will for the first time feature a competitive street stage.

The organisers are pleased to confirm that plans for a super special stage to be run in the centre of Duns are well underway. With the co-operation of the people of the town paramount, the route of the proposed stage was recently unveiled at a public meeting. The county town of Berwickshire, Duns sits in the heartland of the Jim Clark Rally, which this year takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 22nd to 24th May.
Mainland Britain’s only closed public road rally, the Jim Clark will once again see competition take place over a number of testing special stages set throughout rural Berwickshire. But, on the Friday and Saturday legs of the rally, selected streets in Duns will also thunder to the sound of high powered rally cars.

The Jim Clark International Rally will visit the stage three times during the Friday and Saturday, and plans are in hand for the super special to form the central part of a motor sport heritage show.

Jim Clark Rally Manager Colin Pagan said: “It’s great that we’re able to bring exciting special stage rallying right into the heart of Duns - very much the spiritual home of the event, and just a few miles away from where Jim Clark farmed before going on to become World Motor Racing Champion. We also hope that this will form the centre of a motor sport and Jim Clark heritage show. Whether you’re from Duns, a visiting rally fan or a competitor, we’re sure this will be an exciting spectacle which can only help to further enhance the reputation of this great event.”
