I have been calling Tomtom every few days. I haven't managed to get them to accept there is a problem. My main beef is that I paid for the new maps which are virtually useless with 8.300 and 8.301. Tomtom refuse to refund or extend the subscription period.

I suspect the people that are not having problems are not using their unit every day. I do 30,000 to 40,000 miles a year and believe me a fully functional satnav is essential. Yes I do use the unit as a hands free device - that's what it is designed for after all.

I have used Tomtom since the very early days when it was unbeatable and am very sorry that it has come to this.

I will not be buying any more maps after my subscription is finished.

I'll go elsewhere or pirate the maps. Serves them right!

DO I SOUND ANGRY - YUP!

I'm afraid I disagree, I run a 920 with 8.301 and have no problems and we've no way of knowing the percentage of users that do. Even if you do suffer, it is only under certain configurations so while a petition to Tomtom may be a good idea, I very much doubt a lawful case would have any standing.
An irritation - yes, so alter the configuration.
A farce - No.

I for one would be interested to know the figure of people who are not happy or are suffering these problems. This device has been designed to do the things that it appears not to be able to do, I have had this problem for best part of 3 months and I have never heard from Tom Tom how they plan to fix it, not a sausage. I had a TT700, very happy and bought a 720 because of the feature set it had, some of those features do not work anymore, I would like to know why and when it will be fixed. A farce it most certainly is and slightly more than an irritation.

The stuttering thread is a long one now, been going a while and still not a word from TT, not even a sorry we messed up with this, but we are on the case. There are aware of it is all I ever heard, great that sets my mind at rest.

090120-009575 refers to stu-tt-tt-er and lack of RDS/TMS - they insisted it be returned as a hardware fault - stt-u-tt--tt-er cured by powered reset. RDS/TMC still not working right with new USB device purchased. Serial device refused to work at all.

090212-003857 refers to lack of ability to operate my go from TTH and when's new map update. (answers as below)

081203-004434 refers to TTH not working with Vista - which they never did sort - answers found on this forum.

I asked 2 questions today and got the following ..

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support with regards to your option "Operate my Go"
Your reference for your query is 090212-003857.

1) There has been a new application version that came out yesterday 8.301 this application works fine but the option "Operate my Go» does not work for the moment.

We currently cannot offer you an immediate suitable solution for this problem but you should be able to access this option again shortly.

2) We are not informed when the new maps are coming out but the new map should be coming out either this month or next one.

With Best Regards

I think you may find that you will have to prove that you had this problem from day one not the other way round but since TomTom have clearly created this problem they are duty bound to repair the problem.

Can i suggest that people show the calls they logged with v.8.300 and v8.301 this will show that the fault is clearly TomToms making and will added alot of credit to everyones cases.

Also i think if you can prove that the work around that was posted on this site works for you and i have to say everyone else will show that this is very much a software problem and not a hardware one.

I know this may sound alot but we have to build a very very good case if we are to show that the problem is TomToms with their software updates if this was a hardware fault then it would happen from the minute we got the things out of the box.

I myself will try the new update and if this courses me a problem will be adding my name to this list.

There's a bad smell lingering over this whole 8.3 navcore update debacle. TT has known for weeks (starting month 4 now), that 8.3 firmware causes issues for many many users. Yet they still are making it available, exposing even more owners to TTS crippling, unnecessary removal of North American FM features, slow map redraws and position lag. Why would they do that? Why wasn't the update pulled weeks ago, saving some owners a load of grief? Looks like it's the money to me. The map updates that they make a bloated profit on need navcor 8.3 to work. Pull the update for the benefit of the owners, and lose the map profits benefiting the company. Looks like the company won, at least in the short term. All in all, the situation just stinks of greed. No reason to have this update still being pushed to owners other than wanting to line their pockets with map money at the expense of users. If TT was really concerned about their owners, this update would have disappeared within a week of it's release months ago.

There does seem to be an acknowledgement
of the stutter problem on the TT site.
This is the URL. It is rather long and I don't know
how to fit it onto this page very well but it should work.

I've edited my post because the URL ruined the layout of all the messages.
Can someone explain to me how to include a long URL in a post to avoid this problem. Thank you.

This is the the question and answer taken from the TT site page.

Question
Faltering voice on GO x20 / x30
Answer
The computer voice on some GO x20 and x30 devices with application version 8.300 may sound broken up or faltering.
We're currently working on a solution. This solution will be offered as an application update via TomTom HOME. In the meantime we recommend using a standard voice.

I have received an email reply from Tomtom and once again it lacks clarity and reassurance. For a start I reported 8.301 not 8.300. What is this update if it does not fix the stuttering and when can we expect yet another update.

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support with regards to your voice instructions.
Your reference for your query is 090211-009565.

The computer voices on some GO x20 / x30 devices with a 8.300 application can be missing or faulty.

We are currently working on a solution to this challenge. This solution will be offered to you with the next application update on TomTom Home.

In the meantime, we advise you to use a standard voice.

To select a standard voice, please tap on Voice preferences, then Change voice.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

With Best Regards

I'd be interested in what "configuration" you are using. I have tried a varety of configurations, including removing all but the most basic options (no TMC traffic, no Handsfree phone, no POIs) - the problems still happen no matter what configuration I use. I think that you must be one of the lucky ones either because you don't use the device enough to cause the problems to appear or because you are not using the text to speech facilities for reading out road signs / street names.

Thanks for all of the responses so far.

I am not interested in a legal case here, all I really want to achieve is enough tech support call log numbers to embarrass TT in to taking this issue seriously and fixing it. If I manage to get a three month extension to my Map Update then all the better.

Keep logging those tech support calls and recording the reference numbers on here.

Thanks
Andy
