hi,
could anyone suggest why i am suffering the following anomaly?
i've just been to Cornwall where it would appear that tom tom doesn't consider it to have a coastline. drive to say Boscastle or St Ives, there is no BLUE sea displayed, quite disorientating:( i've also notices that there is no BROWN for urban areas, everything just shows up as GREEN. my last observations whilst driving through an urban BROWN area that should be BROWN, but shows up GREEN, i do get the occasional BROWN flicker?!
clear as mud eh?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
regards,
GaRy:)

ps i've attempted to search for an answer, but my search strings blue, sky, brown don't return anything?

have you tried doing a hard reset and maybe changing the colour scheme?

map 'western Europe v 705.1480.

i've tried changing the colour schemes, no joy:(

'hard reset', is that the push and hold the RESET button for 30 seconds?
i was worried that would 'mess up' speed cam settings etc?
is that a restore factory settings thing?

cheers again,

GaRy:)

Doing a reset using the "paperclip in the hole" method, will not lose any personal settings, it just re-boots the program (normally turning off the device only puts it into "sleep" mode).

(Incidentally, I firmly believe there is only ONE level of paperclip reset, holding it down for 5,10,20,30 seconds or keeping your fingers crossed as you do it etc. makes not a blind bit of difference, so long as you hold it down for long enough to fully de-power the circuitry (say 2 or 3 secs.) Anyone who has documentary evidence otherwise , do please prove me wrong.... Smile )

There is the "bigger" option of a "Return to Factory settings" in the Preferences menu.

Finally, have you tried using a custom colour scheme? Try "GBNew" from HERE

A month or so ago in a US forum, a poster had the same problem with a NA map. TT determined the map itself was faulty and had the op download a (correct) version.

well, much time has passed, i parked this as i could live with it and couldn't do with following tom tom fault finding procedure back in September. i resurrected this a month ago and have been jumping through tom tom hoops for a month, they finally let me download a more recent map and that has fixed the issue. i went from 705.148 to 710.1561.

tmc/rds is still broken though, it just doesn't lock-on to a signal anymore:(

any idea where the favourite locations are stored?

any suggestions.

many thanks for your time,

GaRy:)

Gary, the RDS-TMC should work fine with any software starting 8,xx it could be you are located in an area of weak signal coverage - where are you using the unit - nearest town etc.

Favourites are stored in the MapSettings.cfg file which is located in the active map folder, if you are using Navcore 8,300 software on your device it will have wiped this file out as the new software uses a slightly different format.

As you are only running version 710 mapping I would suggest you revert back to the Navcore 8,010 software on your device as it is less buggy than the 8,300 release - and unless you have v815 maps installed to your device you won't see any of the benefits - all you get are the bad bits which are avoidable - Mike

mike,

i don't think it's a weak signal, as it seem to be everywhere i go.

i'm cm120te, billericay, essex.

i think you were good enough to give me a tmc poi file some time back, so i've tried entering local frequency etc.

i get the splash message when connects, but it aways seems to be searching for a station!

i reverted back to 8.010, no joy.

faulty tmc module?

i feel a disheartening mammoth conversation with tom tom coming in:(

hi mike,

it's in a ford focus with regular glass.
i've changed nothing, hardware wise.

i've tried it in my back garden, no improvement, but will try it in a few other locations, hopefully without looking too strange.

i suspect one of the connections on the connector, perhaps the one that senses the unit is okay, but which ever one is the antenna is damaged / dis?

as i said it will show the connected message, but then it times out after no signal is found.

GaRy:)

Do you know anyone else who has a device compatible with the RDS-TMC that you could try the receiver on?

You need to isolate if it is a hardware problem or a software issue.
