Can you let me know how you get on please - what choice of handset on the purchase page and whether it worked OK. I am in exactly the same position as you (TD from Orange) and have been waivering as to whether or not to upgrade from TT6.

Thanks

It appears to have worked! I purchased the Vodafone Touch Diamond map and downloaded it via TTHome. The download was very slow, but it installed direct to the internal memory on the Diamond and worked without any tweaking.

A good result! Thanks Steve & Stuart for your help. Peter, hopefully you shouldn't have any problems Very Happy

I've just moved my TomTom 6 to my TyTN II purely to use it for Speed Cameras alongside my Honda SatNAV.

I like the sound of the latest maps as Honda is even more out of date than my TomTom 6 maps.

Are all of you who have got it working this way using HTC Touch Pro or Touch Diamonds? Anybody know if it works on the TyTN II / Kaisers ?

Again happy to buy the maps but just want recent ones.

It is a shame Tom Tom have abandoned the PDA users. Reading between the lines it seems piracy is to blame, but surely that is their own fault for not bullet proofing the system enough. At the end of the day Tom Tom made it's name from the PDA users it has now dropped.

Why not save a serious amount of cash and look at GPS Speed Sentry running on the PDA, this application can use the Speed Camera database from this site and works very well on a PDA - you can read about it Here - better still you get the opportunity to try it for free to see if you like it before paying for the full version (which certainly won't break the bank) - Mike

The irony of it is, of course, that there are half a dozen ripped TT7+map copies out there to be had for those that are so inclined.

I just upgraded my HP iPAQ hx4700 to Windows Mobile 6.1, courtesy of various cooked ROMS out there. Took a while to find a stable one, but eventually I found one and the device is working great with a new lease of life (why couldn't HP have produced a newer version of the hx4700? I would have bought it, but that's another discussion).

Anyway, I loaded my registered copy of TTN6 onto it and then discovered the delights of TT Home for the first time, but after a slight struggle I got that working and got it to update TTN6 to the latest TTN6.

Then, with a hankering for new maps, I went ahead and ordered the latest map of Western Europe that was being offered to me (6.75 iirc). Having got that up, running and registered, I realised that the map was still pretty damn old.

Great, 50 quid (don't ask - shipping to Spain et al) down the drain. Perhaps it was my own fault for not reading the small print (cited earlier) on their web site - but, for heavens sake, anyone who has tried to navigate that site knows only too well the horrors that await.

Now, of course (reading through various threads on this board) I have been educated with respect to the position of new maps and TTN7. Thank you to all, even if a little late to save my hard-earned dosh.

So now, of course, I'm wondering exactly what the criteria is to have a chance at running TTN7 and then I remember the posts I saw when upgrading my iPAQ ROM of various people remarking that they had a ripped copy of TTN7 running fine under WM6.1 (on the iPAQ hx4700).

Well, I guess I'm going to try it (the legal, albeit unsupported way) and see what happens. I will begrudge paying TT for yet another a new map (although I will console myself with the fact that it will finally be an up-to-date one and my trusty hx4700 wll continue it's new lease of life), but in all conscience I will only consider trying the "alternative" way if there are no other options.

Thanks for that tip Mike, I may have a look at the free trial. Screenshots though make it look a little fussy for me, there seems to be too much info on display, when really my current TT6 just works away next to my Honda stanav and chirps the odd voice warning (via oggs). I've the main satnav voice set to one that is not there so it is silent bar the speed camera warning.

Ouch, my TT6 maps are only v660 and there is no way I'm paying to upgrade to v675 which is already well out of date.

Anyway you should try Honda Upgrades. £200 for a new satNav disk, I think our next one is due any day now and I bet it is still not as up to date as my TomTom 660 Sad

TTN7 is running just fine on my old Ipaq H2210 with windows CE4.20.0

Also have it running on some RZ1710's with only 32mb memory, but the app needs moving to the SD card for that.

You mean that the iPAQ 210 is not a newer version? It is faster with more ram and has a 4 inch screen and Windows Mobile 6. OK so they missed a huge trick by not including GPS, but it IS the new hx4700.

I tried cooked ROMs but they all had compromises and i am back using 2003SE

Doesn't like my Touch HD! Had to go back to TT5 (yes, 5!)

Any tips on getting it to work? I copied all files across, tried the .cab install, then tried the autorun.exe, neither had the desired effect. Sad

Yes, indeed, if you don't need IR. Although there is the question of whether one wants to buy a new high-priced PDA as a replacement for one that works anyway. My ROM is stable and I haven't found any glitches in it, so I'm happy with what I have atm.

However, if my hx4700 ever fails, I will probably buy a 210 as a replacement and find a way to do without IR for what I use it for. The phone thing is easily circumvented by using the smallest Bluetooth mobile phone that you can find to go with the iPAQ, I guess.

Regarding TTN7, I've decided to stick with TTN6 for now, as I can't see any great gains by going from 6 to 7 (until my curent map gets really out of date). Mostly I have a beef with the fact that my house and the roads that lead to it are nowhere on the last TTN6 maps. I'll wait on TT releasing something (if they ever do) - although I'm pretty sure that my platform will run TT7 fine.

Point taken anyway.

Hi Fuego

I just thought you might have missed it. I've never found a use for IR, so it didn't even occur to me that it was missing. I am still mostly happy with my hx4700. I found that I was somehow sliding the slider on the bottom, and disconnecting the main battery. Now the cell battery that provides the backup to the main battery is dead. I've taped the slider, so its not an issue, but the WM6 looked a great idea as it seemed to overcome the reset issue. Which ROM did you find that was stable and included everything?
I didn't mention a phone, but that would be good too.
I may jump ship if HP don't improve their offerings. The forthcoming Toshiba TG01 looks good. http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/02/04/five-reasons-toshiba-tg01-will-set-a-new-standard-in-phones/
Now that should run TT6 or 7.

INMO The main benefit in TTN7 is the application itself, the Maps including V8 are still way out of date in my local area by 6 yrs, v8 has at least corrected a road name after 9 yrs, other people claim some improvement in some areas, but my benchmark is my area which i know. v8 in some cases is more out of date than the v6.75 Navteq release.

Hey. I don't know, what's your definition of everything? :P
Using the PDAVIET Build 20764.1.4.3 PV ROM which is WM 6.1 Classic (CE OS 5.2.20764). Also seeing good reports on WM 6.5 CE OS 5.2.21339 build 21139.5.0.0, which I might try if I can do some sort of backup/restore thing to provide a fallback, in case. Google those for pertinent links/discussions.

I fully agree.

Having been playing with a v8.15 map recently, ive noticed that it still thinks there is a junction off a main A road near where I live.
But there NEVER has been, and this has still not been corrected!
Something which I got used too in my first tomtom 5 map! -not much good if you didnt know ther area and was expecting an exit!

Ive also noticed that the `keep left/right` instructions are at almost every corner on the A23 including a cafe layby!, which i would find very annoying!

I dont know if these would / could be corrected / switched off under the mapshare scheme.??

I would be interested to know what the last Navteq map for tomtom was, was it the 6.75map ??
