JohnWB, when you tried WebUpdater you probably downloaded it already. It is in Tools (not on the first screen tough, you must scroll down). You will see it as there is a new icon in the Tools menu.
This is a great feature!

Frustratingly, the ecowhatzit thing seems to think that I should be driving at 45mph on the motorway.

Feek, ecoRoute doesn't advise the speed to drive. It only reports fuel costs and a few other things based on data you provided (mpg, type of fuel, etc.)

What makes you think that? Or is that the red / yellow / green leaf icon only showing green at 45 mph?

if it is the leaf, you can get it green even at 70-80mph as long as you don't accelerate too fast and don't slow down rapidly.

Will they be adding more devices later, I have nuvi 760?

I don't have any information on whether they will roll this out to more devices but I'll ask Smile

Could you ask about a Nuvi 670 too please?

Thanks, N.

Email from Garmin today says that Ecoroute is only available as an update for the newer models.
apparently because of different operating systems.

I find it amusing that anyone can make any claim of being green at those speeds. It's absolute proof of the credibility of this marketing hype.

i meant 'to gt the leaf [on the screen] green. well it's 'greener' not to accelerate and slow down, which this 'leaf' icons shows you as a higher number, which makes sense imho.
the 'leaf icon' is a kind of gadget, but i have to say the fuel cost and mileage reports are very useful.

Because it's at that speed when the figure is at 100, therefore that's when it happiest.

Sitting at motorway speeds with cruise control on, I get a figure of about 55-60 I think and it's yellow at that speed IIRC.

I think it's a bit of a gimmick really although I am training the fuel cost whatsit quite nicely.

For some larger cars, that can tend towards being the most economical speeds.

Some of the bigger autos, only tend to get into lock-up in top, at heading towards 80.

My merc auto has very similar MPG at 70MPH and 80MPH, 70 does about 45MPG and 80MPH does about 43MPG. Take it to 90MOH though and it drops to low to mid 30's

Initially I was also sceptical but now think it is actually more than just a gadget. You have to take into account your own cars "real" fuel economy i.e really have to do a run with a full tank over known distance and refill to max again, not just use mpg from manual (thou good starting point). After doing such a calibration run I worked out that combined economy figure was actually 54 mpg compared to 51.4 shown in manual and 51.6 calculated by ecoroute on Garmin. Was well chuffed as this was mostly at 70 - 80 mph. With recent cut in price of Diesel it cost me £27 to cover 330 miles ! Very Happy
Would love to see the facility to "upload" these stats and compare with other users, surprised that Garmin doesn't offer this as a way of "selling/generating more interest in" ecoroute and encouraging existing Garmin users with incompatible systems to upgrade.

Rgds
