Amazon have both the above models for sale - but the 930 is cheaper (by a lot). What is the difference ?

thanks

The "T" version is exactly the same main unit but it has the accessory RDS-TMC Traffic system receiver bundled with it.
If you don't get the "T" version, you can always buy it later on.

As above the difference is the TMC receiver. However you need to look at two things there, the difference in price and which TMC receiver is bundled.

I bought a 530T from Halfords in late October and it came with the older type jack plug TMC unit. The current TMC unit is better and comes with a USB plug, So see which one is bundled with the unit you are buying.

I bought a USB type TMC for about £20 on Amazon (RRP=£50), so look at the price difference between the two models, it may be cheaper to add the TMC later. There is no difference in the actual unit or software so this is a major decider.

I actually found the TMC to be almost useless in Ford cars due to the heated front screen and ended up subscribing to TT GPRS traffic. I also do not like wires hanging on the screen. I liked the idea of free Traffic info but with hindsight I would have gone for the 540 and paid the extra for the HD Traffic over GPRS traffic.

The TMC will hopefully come in use when I go abroad (if I can get a signal) for both my TT units as HD traffic currently only works in the UK and GPRS will cost a fortune when roaming, if it works. I might adapt the TMC unit to another FM aerial to suit my cars when I get the time.
