Voice problem after 8.3 on 720

Thanks for the advice i am happy to do this just wasnt sure about the X number just getting cheesed of with TT and the amout of time they are taking to fix i used to work in IT and if we ever had a bug like this we would have to fix it with in days not months

I have found a one small problem with this update i now cant add any routes as i use to was but i guess its only one small problem till tomtom release an update

hi when you in tomtom home their you can add routes but it seems like its sorted itself out could have been a one of thing

I have gone back to human voices and I must say I find them easier to follow. There is less jabbering away and I get easy clear simple instructions.

I find all the street names and oddly pronnounced road numbers (A four thousand one hundred and seventy four instead of A four one seven four) distract me from following the directions.

I'm sure they could have got road numbers pronounced in the normal way or are we not normal in the west country.

Over 500 posts and 55,000 reads so far shows the extent of this problem. As only a tiny percentage of TomTom users will be aware of Pocketgpsworld the number of unhappy users must be enormous.

TomTom are still, as at yesterday, denying that there is a problem.

TomTom are undoubtedly the market leader and their product is quite good when it works although nowhere near as good as it was in the early PDA days.

It looks like they have decided to abandon X20 users. They could easily fix it by using slightly modifed x40 firmware but have apparantly decided that we should buy the new hardware.

Exactly. 2 roads near me. I have only ever heard people refer to the A217 as the "ay two one seven" but the A240 can be "ay two four oh" or "ay two forty"...

I'm pleased Snowman and Scotch chipped in here as I was beginning to think I'd been a bit of goon with my Sunday Night Rant :-)

Interestingly, you can still buy a 720 on Amazon so it's not like we're asking to reboot something made by Babbage. Many of us came over from PDA after the development froze on that version. I thought I was moving into the current era but evidently not.

As I said in my last post, reinforced by other comments, Tom Tom are playing a very dangerous game here IMHO.

Also, I've just spent half an hour responding to some posts on a scandinavian forum regarding my line of work. Easy to do during a coffee break. We consider it to be a responsibility of a manufacturer. Tom Tom should do the same. They don't seem to realise that getting involved isn't an admission to a crime, it's the best way to improve your products in the real world whilst reinforcing customer relationships. I bet I'm wasting my breath saying that though - we all appear to be talking to ourselves in a parallel universe as far as I can see.

I'm sure SOMEONE at TT Towers must glance over the various user-forums, but I can remember two instances of TomTom Employees who got directly involved.
One disappeared almost immediately, and the other one got "disciplined" by TT for posting here.

I'm used to TT, taking their time over fixing things, but the almost complete "radio silence" over whether they are going to fix this v8.3 debacle is very worrying.

I've just plugged my 930 into Home for the first time in months, got the update prompt for navcore 8.3 but not yet installed it - I decided to check these forums first after previously getting very burnt with useless firmware on my old 720 some time back. Sure enough it appears TomTom have balls'ed this up too.
I currently have 8.010 and maps 805.1801, should I bother with 8.3 or avoid it like the plague? (I have a windows backup of the device, again lessons learnt from the past)
I would also like to buy the quarterly update package for the maps, can I retain navcore 8.010 or do new maps require 8.3?.

If the new maps are vital then you need to update the application to 8,300 for the v815 maps to work.
To be honest I would sit the next couple of weeks out and then seek further advice on the forum as there should be new maps at some point in Feb which usually means a new application - one we hope doesn't stutter or slow the screen refresh rate down. - Mike
