I think that the word TomTom should be on the list of censored words Laughing

Asterisks (as in: *'strewth* Dennis) are used to highlight or emphasise a word in places where underlining, bold text etc. are not available.

Even in places such as this forum where you *can* use underlining, it's often quicker to use a couple of **'s.
To to the connoisseur, I reckon they give a slightly different emphasis, so both have their place. Wink
Don't forget that you _can_ use "_" for underlining *and* use "*" to emphasise to make are _*real*_ mess! Shocked Laughing

As for the censor list, I'll admit I'm surprised at the prudishness of some in here over pretty innocuous Anglo-Saxon words (or probably a Germanic one in this case) - far milder than those you will find in any "family" newspaper, but the vocal majority seem in favour, so I'll shut up about it.
Couldn't agree with you more! The phrase "N*nny St*te" springs to mind! BUT I think we have a new game :-
so and so can't tell their Onager from their Olecranon. Laughing
I'm KNOW that some of the filtering is justified, but some of it does seem over the top!
Still, with the new ruling, my Off Topic thread about trying to get a donkey across a flooded stream isn't quite so Question Laughing

I think you might be over-compensating, because of that. However, the rulez is the rulez, and if we stray across the line, we'll get censored!

I'm not over compensating, I'm simply trying to walk a tightrope! I'm as amazed that so many of you feel so aggrieved at being asked not to swear as I am by the prudishness of some others.

Far easier in such cases to have a zero tolerance policy than waste time as we are doing here arguing about what is and is not acceptable. Jeez.

So the censorship list can be amended, adding words about which there have been specific complaints?

Could you please add the word "arse" to the list. My daughter (with whom I agree) doesn't allow my grandsons to use that word and I don't want them seeing it on the only website where they often read their granddad's words.

I served the colours for nine years and I'm still a prude in front of women and children. I feel a distinct sense of shock when anyone I'm with uses foul language in front of them.

I must add that I'm disappointed the list is only 20 words long. Don't let me have access to it or it'll grow greatly to include many more (including racism and blasphemy under whatever religion - I'm not particularly religious, but it's a subject close to many people's sensitivities and should be held in respect). Edit to add - I was writing this paragraph whilst the previous post was being written at the same time, not AFTER it.

Swearing is a demonstration of very poor command of the language.

The twenty words on the list are:
Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored , Censored and Censored Laughing

I'm with DennisN and would like the 21st to be arse.
It's a word I don't use in front of the kids or my mum although I have no problem with using it it the company of a group of mates in the pub.

In a similar way the kids don't use the text talk stuff in front of their dad. Very Happy

Done. I had been re-considering anyway so Dennis's post and yours tipped the scale.

Now that we have made our point on use of certain words, can we continue the thread?
How many people got their bluetooth remote from Halfords? Are there people who found out they should have received remotes and have been refused?

As I was the one that started this debate by accident, can we please leave it here and go back to what we do best:

Solving faults in Tomtom's to save them having to employ someone to do it.

I was only surprised on how the censor work or rather didn't. I agree with the censor and want it to stay.

Thats all folks, please lock it now.

Since this has been hived off into a separate thread, I don't see any need to close it. Although I think that Forum Rules might be a more appropriate place!

However, it appears that Jeez has still not been added to the bl##dy list Exclamation
