Hi all

Can I transfer all my Favourites from my go720 to my go940 live as when I copied and pasted the MapSettings.cfg from the 720 to the 940 the 940 refused to boot up just cycling the start-up screen

thanks Terry

On the 720, convert your Favourites to POIs.

FIRST
Change Preferences
Manage POIs
Add POI Category
Give it a name (e.g. My Favs!) Edit If you give the name a leading underscore, _My Favs, the category name will appear at the front of the alphabetical list for when you want to use it. (Navigate to POI it will be the first POI category listed).

SECOND
Change Preferences
Manage POIs
Add POI
select My Favs (POI category)
select to create from Favourite
choose the favourite
keep or rename it

Do SECOND above for all your favourites.

THIRD
Connect to PC and using Windows Explorer, copy the POI Category Favourites from your map folder to your Hard Disk, then copy them to the map folder on 940. If you can connect both devices at the same time (enough USB sockets), you could miss out the copying to Hard Disk. However, having a copy of your POI Favourites is not a bad thing.

Hi DennisM
I know your method of transferring favourites as POI is the accepted one but I find saving favourites as an Itinerary destination quicker and simpler.
Itineraries are always saved on the computer during backups and it’s a simple task to copy them from the backup and paste them into the Itinerary folder on the new device. Once there one can easily save them as favourites once again.

That looks's like a nice idea...
Just one thing.... I can see it is very quick to add all your Favourites as itinerary entries, but I can't see a really quick way of re-saving them as favourites.
The best I can see is to:
1. Highlight first entry
2. Tap "Show on map"
3. Tap Blue cursor button
4. Tap "Add as favourite"
5. Repeat for all others

Is there a quicker way I've missed?

Hi Andy_P
Well, I admit that I do not have a great number of favourites and so I can add the ‘Show On Map’ to Favourites pretty quickly. I have never tried the POI method but it looks a bit complicated to me. However, the POI method seems to be the accepted way of doing things and so I suppose it must be the best way.

I have always saved my favourites as an Itinerary destination into a folder on my PC and so even when I have deleted any favourites from my device they still remain safe. Even if I was to loose my device they would be safe and snug on the computer.

Sounds like six of one and half a dozen of t' other. Both methods require you to use Favourites to create either itinerary or POI. I have no knowledge of the comparative ease of either method - I created my POIs ages ago and no doubt you did the same with your itinerary. I get the feeling your method needs one more step (for each point) than the POIs, namely converting back to Favourites from itinerary - if I have 20 Favourites, I convert them once to POI and use POI from then on. I think you're saying your method is to create itinerary from 20 Favourites, then convert each one back again individually to Favourites when you restore the device from backup?

No! Not necessarily at all!
I wasn't trying to 'do it down' in my last post, I was genuinely asking a question! (sorry if it didn't come across like that).

I really like your method, I think it *will* be quicker (less button presses I think), and I'll definitely be adding it to a write-up of the various different methods that I did.

I just wanted to check I wasn't missing a trick first. Thumbs Up

Sorry to leave you out on a limb tez, I've been out. You must have felt you were talking to yourself. Still, you talked yourself into the solution anyway, good on yer! (By "Restore" I hope you mean "Backup"). Thumbs Up

Oh Terry! Does this mean you used TT Home to backup/restore. Please tell me you were only kidding and you really use Windows Explorer for backups.

Must admit just to be difficult I used a third method to transfer my favourites from my old 910 to the 940 and that was to open the saved mapsettings.cfg in poiedit to get the locations and then on the 940 add favourites as latitude/longitute locations.
