Hi Paul
I also thought at first that the * meant x but in the formula 36 x 30 =1080?? what are the units. The value would also be different if kph were used.

I looked in the help file of POI loader on the garmin site and the formula definitely includes a * but there was no further explanation.

After trying without success to find out whether the * was in fact an American maths symbol, I concluded that the formula probably meant
36 seconds of travel at the stated speed.

I just converted mph into yds per sec and multiplied by 36 to arrive at 528yds traveled in 36secs at 30mph and with the formula interpreted this way it is also correct for kph.

I think that Phil was correct when he said "always remember that the camera is 36 seconds away at your current speed". This of course means that at 60mph the proximity alert will be 1056yds or 0.6 miles.

Will have to try to confirm this distance next tiume I go out!

Chris.

In this case - very confused! But it is basically a distance.

You would end up with 1080 mile-seconds/hour or 0.3 miles

It's best to convert to sensible units beforehand.

60 miles per hour = 1 mile per minute = 88 ft per second

Yes Phil you are perfectly correct. I was confusing myself with the the first bit and 0.3 miles equals 528yds.

At least we seem to have got there in the end.
