Does anybody know how accurate the indicated speed is on this device?
It consistently reads less than my car speedometer in mph
Car - Navman
79 - 73
63 - 60

the difference is enough to gain points
any comments?

I have generally found that the speed on one's speedometer is approximately 8% more (rounded up) than the speed displayed on the GPS device
i.e 30mph on GPS = 33 on speedometer; 50 = 54, 70 = 76 but it all depends upon individual vehicles and the age of the speedometer etc..

If you go over the GPS indicated speed/speed limit then you are certainly in trouble

That would explain why it also underestimates the ETA, as if you are travelling at the speed limit on your speedometer you are actually going around 8% slower than you could be on that type of road.

Exactly! You will probably see that it adjusts the ETA the closer you get to your destination, so that you arrive consistent with the last ETA shown , not the one when you set out on your journey.

(your theory that the difference is enough to gain points on your licence is not true....it's the opposite. If your speedo is showing 75 you should actually be travelling at around 70 - as displayed on the satnav which is more accurate).
