Hi Folks,
I have done a quick search but can't find the answer to my 2 questions - I'm sure a few of the 'experts' on here will be able to easily advise:
1. Speed Camera Voice Warnings - I have recently subscribed and downloads the PGPSW Speed Camera Database, along with some OGG Voice files. These are working a treat. However, my question.... Is it possible to have these play with the navigation instructions muted? I nearly always have my destination programmed, but not always because I don't know where I'm going, rather so that I have the ETA on the screen. This means I often travel with the navigation voice muted - but it would be great if the camera warning could continue to work? I'm aware that if I don't programme the destination (and I haven't selected the 'only warn on route' option) then this will happen, but I loose the ability to have the ETA information.
2. SD Card - Is it possible for me to have a separate Nav Core & Map running on an SD card to that installed on my device. I have a Go720 and a 4GB SD card. On my device I currently have App 8.2 with Map v815. I was wondering if it's possible to have a different App & map loaded on the SD card? I tried putting the entire contents of a previous 'backed-up copy' of my 720 with an older App & Map on the SD card, but it froze on the welcome screen. How do you boot from the SD card? Do I need to put the entire copied files on the SD card or only the map and App - in which case what files contain the App?
Lot's of questions I know, but would be really grateful of some help.

It is possible to have a different map and software on the SD card - I have software V8.20/map V8.15 on the SD card (nice icons) and software V8.3/map V8.15 on the internal drive. Certainly on the 730, it will boot from the SD card first if inserted and yes, you need all the files, both software and map on the SD card for it to work. Remove the card and it will boot from the internal drive.
Not sure on the speed cameras, a real expert will be along soon!

Thanks for this. I did try doing this, but as I said my unit froze. I was however, trying to use a previous app - 8.010,with map v810. Am I unable to get my unit to work with the previous map (and corresponding navcore)now I've offically upgraded to v815? |

| I have an SD card on order which should, with luck, arrive today or tomorrow so I'll stick an older OS & see what happens - I'm interested to see if freeing up memory helps it work any better quicker |

You need to install a 'silent voice' in order for this to work, they are available if you search around e.g. this one. | Quote: |

Yes it's possible, it's easiest to have everything on the card to keep it all simple though.

Darren, thanks for this. But I need to clarify a few things:
The 'silent voice':If I install the silent voice you have linked to using Winrar, will my current speed camera voice work as they do now with the navigation voice activated, but also continue to work when navigation voice is muted? OR is this a different voice for when muted only?
UPDATE: Tried doing this using WinRAR and it hasn't worked? What am I doing wrong? I have only tested the functionality in Demo-Mode though - is this the problem?
SD Card: Are you saying to just load a complete previous backup containing everything (incorporating the App & Map version I require) onto my SD card? Then presumably, if I boot the device with the card in it loads from that, if I boot without the card it boots from the device?
UPDATE: Tried doing this and the device will not boot past the initial splash screen when the SD card is inserted with the previous back-up installed? Again what I am doing wrong?
UPDATE 2: Tried simply putting a previous version of my map on the SD card to experiment and see if I can see this via 'Manage Maps' - 'Switch Map' - and yes I can! Soooo, my only issue here is how to load a different App (Navcore) onto the SD card so the machine will boot from the SD card rather than the device! Any suggestions on what I'm obviously doing wrong?
For the record my SD card is a SanDisk Extreme III 4GB (30 MB/s Edition) if that makes any difference?

No you don't.
On the 720 go to Change Preferences/Voice preferences/disable voice. That will stop the navigation voice but leave the ogg file voice or sound effect alerts working.
This works for both text to Speech and for normal navigation voices.
Of course, any alerts using the text to speech voice will stop though if you "disable voice"
(I seem to remember that the "Disable voice" menu option is not available on every model and software version, but it certainly is on your 720 running either v7 or v8 software.

No you don't.

Andy_P - you are an absolute star! This has worked perfectly for disabling the navigation voice, but keeping the Speed Camera ogg alerts! Excellent!
The next issue - 'dual booting' - All that I have done is simple. I took a complete windows explorer back up copy containing an older app & map and installed this onto the SD card as an experiment. I have placed the SD card into the device and tried to boot it - however it just freezes on the splash screen (even before password screen is presented). If I remove the card, do a reset and then try to boot without the card it works perfectly. I then simply tried removing the back-up from the SD card and installing an older map on the SD card on it's own and that works perfectly. So I am a little stuck? |

I tried this on my 520 the other day & it silenced everything including the speed camera ogg files - I'll give it another go on the way home tonight though |

Ah that's great news, I hadn't realised that was now an option so thanks. I'm still testing the 940 and so want that to guide me but I also have my 520 on as backup and want that to provide the speed camera warnings given that the 940 is still dire in that department. Up till now I've been using the silent voice so it's good to know that option is available.

Firstly, can you access files on the memory card when it is in the device? i.e. .mp3's etc? That would verify if the card is compatible.
If you can then you need to double check you have a full copy of the files on the card. It definitely works, it is one of the methods used when testing new releases.

Quite a number of us are doing dual boot with an SD card in or out. (I presume with just a map on it, you are able to "see"/switch to that map?). It sounds a little as though you may have a card which doesn't like you.
Connect to PC and (using Win Explorer) select the external card, not Internal memory and see if it will format - that way you'll know the 720 can see all of the card - you didn't say SDHC, but if it is SDHC, it's not completely supported on the x20s until App8.300. In my own case, SDHC is supported by App 8.300, but to run that on dual boot I've had to put it on my SDHC (8GB) card, as the GO won't boot from (recognise) the SDHC card if it has App8.010 on it (note I have app 8.010, not 8.2).
I'd suggest you backup now, then get the later App8.300, copy that to the Card and then try again - restore your backup to Internal and see how the booting goes with 8.300 on the card.

Did you use the correct disable? Change Preferences ... Voice Preferences ... Disable Voice (NOT Change Preferences ... Turn off Sound).
