I'm surprised you have the problem after just buying the machine, I was inclined to think it was related to longer term use and LostMike's comments seemed to support it.

Did it freeze immediately after pressing Start on the Trip Log or after some log is recorded? I've had a problem where it freezes on start up for some time but have got into the habit of checking shortly after I start - irritating. However, in the last fortnight, as with the others, it's frozen half way through the walk.
I've taken LostMikes advice and reloaded 1.2. I can live with having to reload the firmware occasionally, but if this problem is going to turn up again within days it's far more of an issue.
If Satmap are reading the forum they should note that there may be two separate problems.

I have now started to get blue dot that refuses to move! Have just come off the phone with Satmap. The software glitch which is causing this has been identified, and will be corrected in update 1.3, which is in beta, and is due for release before the end of the month (they say!)
