You can have both. When you choose a non-TTS voice like Tim or Kate, you are then offered a computer voice for warnings, but you can't set it to read out road names or numbers..

I have been giving this a bit of thought and the only thing i have done THAT MAY be different is that when a friend of mine was doing this about 2 weeks ago he spent a lot of time trying various permutations as he too had issues with various things working or not working. He came up with the result of getting everything to work except wireless data(buddies etc) by changing the bootloader. I have no idea if, or whether even, this has any bearing but it is perhaps the only thing that we have different.
I am not telling anybody that you need to do this, i honestly dont know but my system works. If you change your bootloader be advised that as far as i know its a permanent thing. Backing up will not restore your original bootloader. The bootloader i am running is 5.5106 with GPS V 1.20.

Mike (and all interested)

As a short cut to the better icons from the latest Navcore etc - Mike has done a bit of programming and produced a fine workaround that's been working nicely on my 920 GO.

But, Mike, the latest TomTom operating system, downloaded today, caused problems! The menus corrupted and the unit crashed/froze. I've reinstalled back-ups now and updated - but left your refinements off.

Any suggestions, are you still refining, or is this a case of letting the project die?

Dual boot the device with the older v8,010 application and icon pack on the SD card with the v810 map present on the card.

Put 8,3 and the new map on the device.

Put the SD card into the device and you get the new icons with the old app and map with the advantage of the Navigation voices via FM Tx, take the card out to return to the old icons with the new app and 815 map complete with IQ-2 - at least it offers a choice - Mike

You're not easily defeated mike, that has to be said. Surprised

I would have to be pretty desperate for those icons to be doing what you suggest though!

I'll wait for TomTom to offer the upgrade , thanks though.

Thanks, Mike, that works a treat. Very Happy

I was getting the stuttering voice and jerky maps, but like other features of the new software and map. Now, if I really need to hear the directions I can leave the card in, and when I don't I'll take it out.

Is it a combination of both new map and V8.3 software or just the software? I also have 8.2 software (smooth icons) on the SD card and 8.3 but no new maps on the internal memory.
Thanks Mike.

Having just bought a year's supply of maps after having upgraded the firmware to 8.3 I am a little annoyed that "Kate" has now developed a stutter.

After contributing to a thread on the subject I was made aware that it is possible to use 540 firmware on my 520. I have now loaded the 540 firmware and was pleasantly surprised to find that the 8.15 UK map complete with IQ2 works.

I don't know that Kate's stutter has been cured but early indications are that the 540 firmware is far superior to the version now current on the 520.

The only minor problems I have discovered so far is that the light sensor doesn't appear to work and I had to load a different version of "Loquento TTS"

Voice control is much better although I doubt I will ever use it and the screen appears to be brighter.

Don,t know whether this is just a fluke or what lads but i got so fed up of kate stuttering with version 8.03 that i took a gamble and tried to reinstall version 8.02 loaded ok but still had the old problem of no voices,
i gambled again by removing the loquendo tts files and installed v7 tts still no luck but this time i reinstalled the old v6 tts but this time copied over kate v7 tts not the whole tts folder just kate BINGO works ok full voices and tts worked all day yesterday no probs and no stuttering aswell sorry if this fix is a bit vague but to be honestly truthfull i just stumbled on it but it is def the loquendo tts files causing the no voice prob. this is v8.02 by the way installed on a go 520 i like the new icons and have had no probs with any other functions either

Hi guys,

also went back from 8.300 to 8.204 on my 720. However, I've always used a "human" voice for directions and a "computer" voice for warnings and traffic info at "the same time".

With this 8.204 I can no longer use BOTH. When I select "human" voice, the message appears (like with all other navcores) that this voice can't read warnings. Then a computer voice is proposed. However, this computer voice is then automatically the default for the spoken directions as well.

Does anybody have a clue? (ps: best whishes from Belgium... hence the possible typo's Wink )

Hi Jieper
I have installed the 740 navcore just as an experiment and its works perfectly. However, I have ran into the same trouble as you as regards the one voice. I can have Tim give directions and a noise for camera warnings or Kate give directions and traffic warnings. But not both voices running together.

This seems to be yet another drawback of using The 8.2 navcore.
