Either you already know, or you're 'not bovvered', Cool (and it's hardly a show-starter Confused ) but although a FULL postcode doesn't give a street/house option, I have found that putting in a partial code (leaving out the final 2 letters) DOES. This obviously gives a very short street list to select from.

So there's a choice between a full postcode and keeping an eye out, especially if it puts you in a nearby road to the one you actually want, or a short code plus 1/2 street letters plus a house number and driving confidently Razz to the front door.

I'm confused! For residential areas, the point of having a full postcode is that it narows you down to a handful of houses all on the SAME street. A partial postcode, however, would encompass several streets. If I've understood you correctly, the 8110 is operating the reverse principle?!!

Absolutely right, Dave, and I think Navigon have been asked to make their postcode search do this properly.

But in the meantime we've got what we've got, and have to try and make the best of it!

I'm surprised nobody else here has picked up on this before now... unless your unit has a later ("patched") version of the software which has introduced this bug.

just to let you guys know,navigon says its illegal to have known mobile sites on their camera database.

I emailed back i said "unless garmin are working out of a backroom above a kebab shop in the roughest part of town"How come they have for the last 3 years allowed me to download this info "illegally"

Not sure if germans do "irony" but they thanked me for the info and would tell their software developers.

heh heh...that was great stuff
even I got the same kinda reply when I mentioned there were no cash dispensers on the POI , here's the reply

+++++snip++++++++++
thank you for contacting NAVIGON support.

In reply to your concern we ask you if you do not have thisoption listed as POI, we apologize for the inconvinience but we were prompt to take your e-mail as a positive feedback and have already forwarded it to our software developers.

Yours sincerely,
+++++end snip++++++++++

guess it's just the usual 'don't bother us anymore' gimmick.

about the postcode part(street gone !) , I raised that issue too and here's the reply

++++snip+++++++++++
thank you for contacting us again.

Are you trying to enter your destination through the Voice Commander ,or through the normal New Destination menu?

Can you send us please the address you want to add?
++++end snip+++++++++++

and thanks Bigperk, now atleast we know the workaround (feed partial postcode in) and shall send it to Navigon support ;-)

having waited for 4 months for Navigon to add the ability to use Custom POIs on this unit - I have decided enough is enough.

This unit has many outstanding features but the inability to add Custom POIs to the unit means that it cannot perform an action carried out by sub 100 units

If anyone wants it its for sale in the FOR SALE section. I will be heading to a store to buy a GARMIN or a TOM TOM they seem to have the basics right.

A disappointed first and last time NAVIGON customer.

I have to admit I'm very annoyed with Navigon that we are still waiting for such a basic feature to be added to the 8110.

However, today I had to use my cars built in TomTom and boy was I missing the Navigon. It gave me the most bizarre route from my house onto the A38 I have ever had the displeasure of driving. It insisted on taking me along loads of winding country roads and when I got onto the A38 there were some choice words as I could have got where I wanted a much better route.

The routing didn't get much better from there, even though I have the latest TomTom maps on it it tried to route me along a closed road (closed for a while from the looks of the sign) then tried to direct me the wrong way down a one way street.

You maybe wondering why I was using the TomTom and not the Navigon... well my sister borrowed the Navigon so she could get to Manchester and I will be so pleased when she's back... however I have a horrid feeling she may not want to give me the Navigon back Sad

Yes the Navigon doesn't have custom POI and it's hard to know why we are still waiting on such a feature, but the routing on the unit seems far more sensible to anything else I have had the 'displeasure' of using. That includes Navman, ViaMichelin and TomTom.

I have to say I agree with carlover and jonandmarkuk - I find the lack of user POIs very irritating, and keep moaning to Navigon, but I don't have many specialist ones that I can't do without for the moment (just many I would like) and the Navigon POIs are actually pretty good in most cases.

I can understand someone with very specific must-haves giving up on Navigon, but they will probably pay quite a heavy price in frustration with the routing - that's why I threw my Garmin in the river! I haven't been able to fault the Navigon so far in the most important aspects. I will just be glad when I can start getting top value for money again from my PGPSW subscription by being able to load the cameras again!

Bigperk , maybe you can clarify the routing system .
I have noticed , at one junction(bifurcation of road), there are 2 options.. route A = 23 kms and route B = 19 km.
Route A leads to a kind of main road(not highway) , and route B does not.
I am on 'optimal', but it will always choose A.
even if I choose 'shortest' or 'fastest' it goes only for A.
why does it never realise to take B?

Obviously I don't know the junction you mention. I'm not saying there aren't any problems, only that I've not hit any in my travels (once I switched off automatic re-routing on TMC information, that is!! Cool ).

But you say the shorter option does NOT lead to a main road, which makes me think that could be a reason.

Can you give details of the sequence of commands/responses? Where are you being shown the 2 options? Are you using an 8110 (or are you still using a Mio C710 or similar, which I certainly can't speak for)?

Its driving me nuts - I really like the unit otherwise.

What are 'people's' preference to route profile.

I've always had it on 'optimal'. I recently had to drive to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary.

Optimal wanted to take me through the center of the City while switching to 'Fastest' took me the more logical route of using the 'City Bypass'.

I've left it on fastest to see how it performs.

i was going west up the m40 going to birmingham ,optimal wanted to go through some towns fastest took me the correct way up the M42. The other day in cheshire garmin on this route used to give me a heartattack going down narrow lanes ,navigon missed them all it was heaven!!Same when i was in the cotswolds, i honestly think the routing is as good as it gets.Shame no steet numbers ,also with the garmin if you gave postcode it would give you the actual street its going to take you.Couple of times navigon says ive arrived and i dont really know where i am exactly,difficult to explain but youll get it when/if it happens to you.
