A better scheme would be to permit users to purchase a local area map (users of the HTC devices will be very familiar with this scheme) for a very small outlay, this could then be used by the individual in an area local to themselves to establish if the software actually works on their phone/ PDA. After that a full purchase with no comeback to the vendor should be offered, if a user wants support they could seek advice on this (and other forums) - I doubt this idea will take off but I will propose such a way forward to TomTom - Mike

Mike have just install one of the CABs on my X1 and you are offered the chance to get a free local map. I've download the Lincoln map and it seems to work fine. At least this gives you a chance to test the software before deciding to spend money on a full UK map.

I haven't used the extracted TT7 yet, but hope to, after I have a chance to read, re-read, and understand all the installation steps, and then get my courage up to slog through for my missteps.[/quote]

The problem with the cab installation is that Home sometimes does not see the PDA as a nav 7 installation and unlike home 1.5 which can be forced to download everything the home 2 will just refuse to download anything unless it see's a correct installation. Then for any UK support you will be asked for details of where you got the nav7 from. If it's a cab installation (and they can check) then your using illegal software so may not get support, also say goodbye to your cash if you have managed to start the download because you should not have hacked the cab file in the first place.
Downloading the cab file is like downloading an MP3 file, if it's not licenced to be downloaded, it's theft.
