With all the problems with different makes of sat-navs - can anyone recommend a make / model that is reasonable reliable. Dont need anything complicated (basic is OK for me). Have been using tom toms in the past, however, open to other makes - any advice would be much appreciated.

If tom tom - eg version 4 - could anyone tell me if its possible to generate your own POI`s - will need loads!! (seem to remember that the version 3 had only a limited ability to enter your own - big problem.

Any of the less expensive TomTom or GARMIN models should be what you want. You may be able to pick up a bargain end-of-line system on the Internet what with new models coming along for Christmas...

You can generate POI files using other maps and even from the free to use Google Earth if you find the device doesn't have the required full POI menu.

Not all the lower end TomTom products have the full POI menu available although it is possible to put it back on the device by running a custom menu on the unit.

This is far from ideal, so if you want the true POI options I would look at the XL range or the x20/ x30 and soon to be released x40.

Avoid the One Third Edition as this doesn't have the menu option you need, although I am not too sure about the newer One devices with the fold flat mout - Mike
