About 6 or 7 years ago I was able to plug my old Garmin E-trex into the serial port of my laptop and get it to locate me on autoroute.
I figured that now there are loads of little netbooks, mobile broadband and things like google maps, that it would be a simple matter to just go on ebay and buy an easy to use USB reciever.
Can anyone suggest a suitable product that's available in the uk and not too expensive.
Neither of my laptops are blutooth, so I figured that a wired usb one would save me from using a blutooth adaptor (and having to make sure that the reciever was charged).. but I suppose I would consider it if required

Please suggest any suitable models and where I can get hold of one

many thanks

Paul.

They are available (and a few seconds in Google found Easydevices offering this USB GPS from Globalsat) but they are not common because laptop GPS is a rapidly declining market segment.

There are few truly capable packages for laptops and the form factor and practicality even of the tiny Net books and eeePC's makes them a poor second or even third to PND's and PocketPC's.

That's very interesting Darren. To be honest I would have thought the opposite. With the growing popularity of the small notebooks etc I thought the larger screens and mobile connection to the Interweb would have brought advantages, not sure what mind at this precise moment.
I know you couldn't drive and look at a laptop on the passenger seat or stuck to the dash with gaffa tape.

And therein lies the major issue!
