pocketgpsworld.comBinatone have launched the T430 PND which is cited as the UK's first Sat Nav with a rear-view camera. When the car is put into reverse the display shows a live feed from the bundled rear-view camera. The camera connects to the device wirelessly but is attached to the reverse light for power and to switch it on at the appropriate time. Binatone have also set up a designated team for fitting should you not manage to do it yourself.

The device itself features Navigator 7 which has new features like track logs, route planning and MP3 audio / MP4 video player. Available from Mid May the RRP is £179.99 for UK/Ireland mapping (can be upgraded to European) including the camera and all fittings etc.

First UK Sat Nav Featuring A Rear View Camera

New from Binatone, the T430 is a personal navigation device (PND) with a difference – put the car into reverse gear and it immediately transforms from a sat nav system into a full colour rear view camera. On the road, it is an efficient navigator with colour graphics and verbal step by step directions but when reversing, the screen automatically changes to show what is behind the vehicle – useful for any car without parking sensors.

The Camera

A full installation kit is supplied for the camera which has been designed for mounting under or over the rear licence plate using the existing screw holes. The camera is linked wirelessly to the system on the dashboard but is connected by cable to a reversing light on the car – this provides a power source as well as indicating when reverse gear is activated.

“We believe many customers will be happy installing the camera themselves,” explained Adrian Green, Binatone Sales and Marketing Director. “However for those who would rather leave it to the experts, we have organised a fitting service – details are available from our helpline on 0845 345 9677.”

The Sat Nav

This is Binatone’s first system to feature Navigator 7.0 high performance software. Although easy to use for beginners, there are also several more advanced features such as personal data management; advanced route planning; create and export track logs; save and load planned routes.

The T430 also includes Bluetooth so it can be used as a hands free speaker phone by wirelessly connecting to a mobile phone. When receiving incoming calls, the screen automatically converts into a keypad and similarly, the keypad can be used to dial out. One easily accessed button on the system turns the speaker on and off to accept or disconnect calls.

Other features include:
· UK and Republic of Ireland maps which can be updated to pan-European coverage
· Hundreds of thousands of Points of Interest
· Pre-installed safety camera locations
· Full UK seven digit postcode search
· Slim design and 4.3" wide screen touch-screen LCD
· 2D/ 3D navigation
· MP3/ MP4 player
· Picture viewer via SD card slot
· 1000mAH/ 3.7V Li-polymer battery

“Although we are expanding our sat nav range to include more sophisticated products, we will continue to offer great value for money, “added Adrian Green. “The SRP on the T430 is £179.99 and at this price, anyone thinking of buying a mid range sat nav system can pay just a little extra and get a rear view camera.”

The Binatone T430 will be available from mid May 2008.

Not sure what they are like as a GPS, but I think this is a really good idea as it makes the dashboard less cluttered. Smile

I wonder if some other companies will start to offer the same. Good they have a fitting team too as I tried fitting a camera I brought from Costco but gave up (was designed for USA number plates though) Laughing

Hmmm looking at the picture on the website they are supplying the same camera as I brought and returned to Costco... The holes are just not the right location for UK number plates

fixed - thanks for the heads up shad!!

i'm hoping to get a review sample of one of these as binatone appear to be getting quite a few devices out on the market - would be interesting to see how they compare.

i just wonder how they will run the review device as i'll no doubt need to wire it (permanently?!) to my reverse light!!

Sounds as good a reason to KEEP hold of a Review Unit as ever there was one mate, I reckon...

Go on, you KNOW you'll blag keeping it afterwards on that basis *Laughing Out Loud*

Keen to read said review once done too!

Hi

Anybody tried one of these yet or even the New HD model. I was wondering what the software was like, how "customised" it had been made.

Very Happy

i'm in the process of writing the review for the rear-cam model.

as a quicky:

running igo2006+
works with our speed cam database
rear camera is really useful
screen is a bit reflective
bluetooth handsfree not great
video/audio/photo player/viewer are good - lots of supported formats
non-standard headphone / power sockets
silly power lead...!!

navigation and camera are good though - and considering that is the primary application...!!! just some niggles regarding the physical build etc.

can't comment on the new HD versions but from looking at screen shots they have just updated the software from igo2006+ to igo8 - don't know if any other software has been updated.

Is the rear camera like the picture based on the design which isn't really suitable for mounting on UK numberplates.
I had one which looked very similar and I took it back to Costco as I just couldn't get it to fit.
However I have now seen some which stick onto the back of the numberplate and hang over, looks a much better design

it fit fine to my (uk) numberplate. the camera comes with a few 'adaptors' for different screw positions and i got mine attached n about 10 minutes- it could have been neater but as it was only for testing as opposed to a permanent fixture, i couldn't be bothered!!

see pics below:

NB: the camera could have been placed higher by moving the bracket up behind the plate, but as mentioned above i was too lazy to put too much effort into it for the sake of a half hour 'test' while connected to the mains (rather than hooking it all up to the reverse light!)

Cool... the ones from Costco didn't have anything like that so you have to figure out your own way to make them fit.... good to see they have realised the screw placements on some numberplates are different. Wink

I think it's a great idea to combine the functions. I was looking at a reversing camera but decided against it when I realised I would have to then carry around with me the Radio front / the GPS and then the screen for the camera and when 'summer' is here Rolling Eyes I won't have anywhere to put anything.

I have successfully installed the original model with only a little trouble in a hatchback due to lead length. Reversing camera is certainly a bonus but the IGo software is a bit quirky and Binatone support is pretty poor on the web.
The routes are generally sensible but even with a 4.5 in screen the Cockpit figures can be too small to read and the support seems very prone to vibration and not very easy to fit to a steeply raked windscreen.

Does any one have one of these. I have been asked by a friend to fix his after he tried to install IGO8 onto it. Not sure what is missing but as ROM seems to be protected it should be ok so hopefully just rewriting flash will sort. Unfortunately he did not take a copy before he started playing. Anyone got a copy?
